Wellie blowing a bit but clear. Forecast not too bad for further north, could be a bit windy, maybe a few showers. Nothing major by the looks.

Yeah cowboyz change of plans, bro needs help me too???????
The Desert Road itself is in good condition as I saw a lot of work has been done on The Three Sisters when I came from Auckland on bus but driver said it will be all snow in two weeks so I guess snow on the road next week.

Then again SH4 wasn't in good condition as a lot of works going on so the Hornet got mud everywhere. Then there was the large amounts of shiney patches on parts of the highway. My wheel slipped out while going around a 100km/h bend in the wet and I was only doing 80km/h.

    Have a safe trip.

awesome ride today. been a while since I been that far in a day. It got fairly fucking cold around parts but the good bits were fantastic. Awakino rocks! Mt messenger was a bit average. Really enjoyed surf highway and following Yod down 8 mile was just magic. All finished off with a "spirited" V Hill run.

run into paulmac in hawera who gave us coffee and let us park a heap of kwakas outside the zooki shop for a bit (and one honda)

and then caught boob johnson escaping the rat race in his car just out of awakino. Good to have a brief catch up.
My pics are in my sig.

Apologies for bailing yesterday, to be fair I should have never turned up as I knew I was'nt really in the mood for a long ride. Too little sleep and in a decidedly average mood was'nt really a great recipe for a 850km ride so by the time we got to the main drag other side of Halcome I was realizing I no business being there. I stopped in at Manfeild yesterday and it took until 11am until my toes warmed up again.

Glad to here you all enjoyed the day yesterday though, and to be fair it was a decent day out at Manfeild too, I learnt a couple of things to boot.
    1. My new textile jack is is no good (for me) if you don't have the means to attach it to your pants as it rides up like crazy and I think probably my leather jacket is warmer so all in all I might (might) have bought myself an expensive liner for my leather jacket, ya live and lean I suppose.
    2. My winter gloves are a real pain in the arse to put on but probably a bit better than I gave them credit for at keep the cold out and not that I rode though any heavy rain yesterday but seem to be waterproof thus far.

How much did said gloves set you back? I bought myself some Oxford glove insert thingies that you wear inside your normal gloves. Still got wet at the end of my trip up to Auckland but hands were warm.

I too went shopping for warmer hands yesterday. In the end I settled for the cheaper option of thermal inserts. I'll give that a go and see how I get on. Won't make much difference in the wet though so ultimately I'll be up for new gloves or a pair of Rain-Offs to keep out the wet.

all good. it was an adventure alright. got really cold in the middle of the island. its better to bail than crash. I have some new designer scratches on the left hand side of the 9. First time in over 60,000km the fairings have been introduced to the road. It was the bizzareist lie down I have ever seen but I was pretty pissed off. I parked under the sign at pio pio for a photo shoot then walked up the road to get my camera then took a photo and then waited for everyone else to get their bikes sorted and walked back to it to hear monie yelling to catch my bike. I was about 30m away and nothing I could do except watch my bike fall over at 0.00003km/hr. Broke my indicator which was a real hassle cause then I couldnt use it for the rest of the trip!
Following Yod up 8 mile cheered me up a little bit.
Have to look at a paint job for it now.

You too Sarge! I started to head north yesterday afternoon, but ended up with a frozen aching hand. Decided stuff this and headed home.

I bought a whole pile of electrical stuff to install those "Man Grips", but they are going to be a mission. I'm starting to wonder if I wasted my time and money. That new controller by the way is a "click" type, so I wouldn't imagine you'd have to hold the buttons down. Just a shame the supplied bracket is completely useless, so I'll have to make my own if I install them.

I contacted Kerry on Friday about my starting issue. He gave me some good battery advice (Be patient) and that may have been the issue. Failing that, he narrowed it down to the starter motor (dirty/worn) or sprag clutch $$$$$ beyond belief. Cross fingers!
