Parking the "wrong way" What law does it break?

Hey folks I got a ticket from the local council for parking the wrong way on the roadside .
    Im going DO WHAT??
What possible difference can it make what end faces traffic.
Can somebody tell me the the law it breaks to park in daylight with the front of the vehicle facing oncoming traffic.
Sounds petty because the fine is only $40 but it annoys me they have nothing better to do.

It's the parking the wrong way law, punishable by $40.

One of the ministry of silly walks laws that i laughed at when i arrived in NZ

Because a nighttime the reflectors around your lights will be facing the wrong way.

Legal in the UK. Illegal in NZ.

I think the 'logic' is that to park on the wrong side you must have driven on the wrong side of the road at some point.

Makes no sense when the road only has room for a single lane of traffic, like the roads around my place

And when you leave the park, you'll have to exit on to the wrong side of the street, or reverse out. This is gonna be especially troublesome when someone is waiting for you to leave your park so they can park there.

Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.

From the Road Code section on where not to park:
You must not park or stop your vehicle:

    * on the right-hand side of the road, except in a one-way street

As Flatcap says, to drive in and out of a car park on the RHS you need to drive on the wrong side of the road for several seconds. There are many places where this increases the risk involved. (OK, and some where it doesn't.) It's a good rule, in my opinion, and I'm glad we didn't follow the UK example.

they made it law in the 30's.
they used to find stupid people stuck in the middle of the road beside cars parked the wrong way, walking round in tight circles.
initially it was not a problem, cars just drove round them on the way to the supermarket etc, the problem arose when the drivers went to pay at the supermarket checkout and found that it was unattended.

    YOU LAWLESS HEATHEN!!!

How DARE you park on the wrong side of the road. That's worse than drink-driving, murder, rape and knifing pensioners all rolled into one.

Why won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?

Lock him up, and throw away the key.

    I for one am outraged.

I was too fined once for parking my cage the wrong way on a small no centre line road. It was a windy Wellington day, if I parked it the right way the doors would have blown off. Parking wardens just pushing there luck, I wrote to the council to have the fine wavered.

It's not legal in the Uk, you have to park facing the flow of traffic. Nobody takes any notice of it though and I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it either.
