The 26-year-old suffered moderate injures in the crash in Hamilton yesterday and was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance.
Police say the crash happened shortly after 3pm, near the intersection of Riflerange and Norton roads. The motorcyclist had earlier been stopped at the corner of Tristram and Ward streets in the city.
The rider was stopped after officers noticed it [the bike] had a cardboard registration plate on it but the rider sped off before police could speak to him, a police statement released this morning said.

The man was arrested and charged with reckless driving. Police allege the man was also in possession of a knife, methamphetamine and cannabis.
The police serious crash unit is investigating and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified of the crash.
