Gidday all,
Well, the team is registered and we are already in training for the OXFAM Trailwalk 2010.
For this of you who don’t know, this is an annual event run by OXFAM to raise funds to support their various projects around the globe. The deal is that teams of 4 walk a track and trail course of 100km non stop in and around Taupo including various pit stops along the way. It’s a team event, not a relay, which means we all do the course together and have 36 hours to complete meaning walking through the day and the night.
I have been on support crew for this event 2 years running (my missus did the walk in 2008) and it is now my turn. Together with 3 great friends, we are taking up the challenge to help those who are far less fortunate than us.
The event is in April next year but we are already training now (20-25km walks during the week plus a minimum 16km at the weekend) along with fortnightly meet up’s in Woodhill Forest for 4, 6 and 8 hour walks etc etc so it is all on.
OXFAM provide us with a team page to keep everyone updated on our progress and fundraising etc, please check it out at the link below:

As part of this event we are committed to raise money for OXFAM and there are a number of ideas knocking about, one of which is a 12 hour non stop ‘Beatles Busk’ which yours truly will be doing towards the end of the year. The local Howick business community is supporting this little bit of fun which is basically a 12 hour busk one Saturday in Howick playing all Beatles songs.
I’ll let you know the date nearer the time so that you can come along and take the piss, rev your bike over the noise or chuck rotten eggs at a fat biker with a crap voice…!
So, that’s it for now. Keep an eye on the team page for regular training updates, recipes, tips for curing blisters and how the fundraising is going.
Cheers all
