    Motorcyclist hits two police cars.

Copied from The Wikato Times today:
A Te Awamutu man who crashed his Harley Davidson motorcycle into two police patrol cars after a high-speed chase through peak-time traffic later said he had acted in panic.

Shaun Robert Hall, 21, was yesterday convicted and fined $600 and disqualified from driving for six months after admitting driving in a reckless manner and failing to stop for police.

The Hamilton District Court was told that on July 13 this year, about 5.30pm, Hall was riding south on State Highway 1 near Te Rapa, Hamilton, when police clocked his speed at 120kmh in a 100kmh zone.

Hall was signalled to stop but instead accelerated on to Pukete Rd, overtaking several southbound vehicles and causing oncoming traffic to take evasive action. He then rode through a red light into Manchester Place where he tried to do a U-turn but collided with two patrol cars.

Police described traffic in the area as heavy at the time.

Defence counsel Wayne Dollimore said Hall was apologetic for his behaviour and had "simply panicked" after police signalled for him to stop. He said Hall disputed some of the speeds police alleged, but he admitted the charges.

Community Magistrate Pat Oettli said Hall's actions were "very dangerous" and had put the lives of other motorists at risk

Interesting how it was necessary to name and shame the riderand the marque...

If he was driving a Commonwhore Station Wagon would all that detail be nessesary?

He paniced because he was scared of getting caught.

If he had got away, the panic would have been over.

No excuse. He knew running from the Police was wrong. And he put many people's lives at risk.

What is it with the quality of journalism in this country? His first sentence is appalling.

120 kph is possible on a Harley. No problem at all. I got overtaken on Highway 27 last summer by two Harleys doing at least that. They were on a trailer behind a big Ford pick up truck.

The cops were right to chase him. The only reason a 21 year old would be able to ride a harley was if he stole it or bought it with drug money!
(No reflection on this actual case obviously)

If you're doing a runner, why would you turn into Manchester PLACE..?

There is no escape from Hamilton. No one actually lives there, they just got stuck in the one way system.
