    South Island police quotas!

Well I'm back from my winter hols...........

Spent time down in Wanaka Skiing with some friends that flew out from England so included a tiki tour of the South Island to show what a fantastic country we live in.
    Why the post????

Because we did a little under 4k all up and got stopped 5 fukin times by the police!!!!!!!!!!!!

First time, Waved at by cop driving in the traveling in the opposite direction prior to a section of road works who promptly spun round and pulled me over. Stating I was speeding through the road works!!!!!!! WTF!! I wasnt in the road works when he did is speed check (he was coming out of them and I was about a hundred mtrs from entering them) so pointed this out to him, his response was, he doubted I would have slowed down enough! I said i did slow down enough and he should be working on facts not maybe's. No ticket.

Second time, Pulled for doing 63k in a 50k zone. I was not!!!!!!!
The long drag out of Oamaru, up hill. I always set my cruise control on long 50k stints. I was not speeding!!! I asked to see his log book for calibration checks (pissed him off a bit) but he showed me but wasnt going to change his mind. Pissed of, went to the cafe just up the road, they said two cops had been targeting up and down that streach of road for the last couple of hours and I was the THIRD person in the cafe in the last half hour having been nicked for doing 63kmh!!!!!!!!!!! Quotas anyone! $80 fine!

Third time, Deisel milage check, all good.

Forth time, Again speeding, in a 60k zone (temporary) this time. Middle of nowhere dead straight road few cones not a sole in sight working, except mr plod (hiding) behind some parked up diggers!!! fair cop, 68 in a 60 = $80 fine.

Fifth time, breath test at 3pm in the afternoon!!! Lights in the mirror pulled over, checked rego, deisel milage and wof and name dob etc. All good.

Is this normal for the SI?
I've travelled 10s of 1000's of K's here and not been stopped but 5 times in two weeks in less than 4000k's!!!

    What kit said.

My experience (both touring from the 'other' island and being based down here for 20 months) is that there are a lot less revenue gatherers than the NI. You must be driving a diesel or something.

Quite normal in parts of the South, yet rare in other parts. That is why I own two radar detectors, two GPS units capable of recording and I usually carry a camera as well.

Sounds extreme to me. I live here and get stopped at checkpoints maybe twice a year. Oh, and I have talked to officers about minor stuff like speed limits.....

If you had an SUV you wouldn't need to carry the rocks in your jacket pocket.

That first time episode is extreme BS that's for sure. WTF at saying "you weren't going to slow down"

What may have happened is you rubbed the first cop up the wrong way (certainly don't blame you), he then put an APB out on your smokie north island deisel burning ass
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
