or 4 of them for the price of a newey.
Shameless plug there Underground! On ya boy!
I rode this bike last week, yes, a bargain for someone out there. Good value and very smooth after my buzzy KTM, but front end could do with some firming up.
As for the new Tenere, way overpriced for what you get... basically same engine, suspension as XT660R, but bigger tank range and more plastic to break. And it's toooooo heavy!
Prolly fun to ride, but then again, so is my KTM

I quite like the look of them. Porky & underpowered with mediocre suspension though.

Selling something like that for $16K in NZ is always going to be a big ask when you can get a DR650 for $9K or a KLR for 10. Look at the BMW X-Challenge & KTM 690 that they tried to sell for $17K, BMW had to slash $4K off to shift all the X-Ch's they had gathering dust, KTM have just dropped the price on the 690 by a grand to try & move some of the 08's they still have.

    Cheers

Cool a new thread knocking bikes!!

Looks like kbers can now catch up with most of the rest of the world knocking the new Tenere. They've been around overseas a while now so if you look them up you'll find lots of ammo to repeat ad nauseam

However if you look at a few tenere threads you'l find their owners love them & farkle them to their hearts delight. Some say Yamaha missed their mark by not making it hardcore enough, while others say judging by the shift to the softer side of adv riding by many potential buyers Yamaha has played a pretty safe card by making it more road orientated.

I think they're horny & would love to have a ride on one.

I read on the interweb somewhere that Yamaha are targeting the BMWGS's with the Tenere.
    That might explain the pricing?

I posted this back in a thread from April.
    _______________________________
Did they give an indication on price?
I spoke to my preferred Yamaha dealer down here and asked if they'd heard anything. They thought they were ment to be here late last year and then I asked about price...he said it'll be quite a bit more than the current XT660,which would put it probably near $15k!
The DR650 with added extras suddenly looks a real bargain, not that they aren't at the moment though.

Seems they were pretty much right for pricing.I really feel at 16k,they aren't going to sell many, price it more sensibly and it wouldn't be a bad buy.

By all means ride one when you've finished riding your high horse - then if you actually read the thread you'll find people aren't knocking the bike, but the price.

Yeah but even if you could afford one, would you pay it? I'd still keep the dosh and spend it on a KTM!

Don't get me wrong, I kinda like the styling; its all a bit angular and transformer - ish, even a bit sorta futuristic(or is it lookin a bit militaristic LOL!); kinda interesting (ignoring the reviews that said it was plasticcy with vibrating/loose bits that is!), but even though I find the styling interesting i just can't see parting with that kind of cash for one myself!

Will be interesting to see what kind of value they hold in the Used bike market! Yammy might think they are aiming for potential BMW buyers but I'd bet the XT is gonna drop value quicker vs the Beemers & Katooms for sure!
    Cheers, Dave

I think it is targetted at the 800GS / transalp market. I don't think pricing would be a major factor in punters buying one. There is a market for them as evidenced by those that have already put deposits down a long time ago.

XT660s & KtM690s haven't sold because people don't like them as evidenced buy dealers sweeping them out the doors.

If you are after a KTM 950/90 you will buy a KTM950/990 because nothing else would make you happy until you got one.

Been through a similar thing with the KTM 690E. Been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the price to come down. No action, so fook it. Went and bought a DR650 with all the extras.

16 - 17K for a single banger dirt (ish) bike is crazy money. Have you seen what sort of a road bike you can buy for that $$$$.
