I suppose individually we're all pretty powerless so our response has to be more fundamental, long-term, and close to home. So, just be glad you're not one of those in poverty, respect this beautiful country we're lucky enough to live in, take care of your family and when you can, do something for someone else for no reason other than to help them out.

Yep money to the 3rd world nations isnt the solution. Changing the value of human life in 3rd world nations is the only solution and unfortunately I think it's a lost cause.

Expressing my own personal ideas around capitalist behavior; I try to support fair trade options over other products, support companies that have a social conscience - I was appalled this week to find out that New Zealand's dairy industry relies on importing palm Kernel feed in order to increase productivity and profits - it seems they don't give a toss about the destruction of rain-forests, the confiscation of land from villages who can no longer sustain themselves.
Our dairy industry is supporting wealthy dictatorships that steal from those who can't defend themselves and are now in poverty

Just like a change in behavior lately by normal consumers like you and me - forced Cadburys to back down and stop using palm oil

The more people who express their opinion the better, it's not a hopeless situation
