    Scooter repair

    Hi,

I'm faced with a small conundrum.

One of my friends sold her car and purchased a second hand scooter a few weeks ago.

Long story short, it crapped out on her, so I got a panicked txt a couple of days ago while I was marking tests at uni.

Apparently it lost power, though it'll still rev. My gut feeling would be a gasket has gone, but since it's a yamaha jog and hence both a scooter and a two stroke it's completely and utterly outside my limited area of knowledge.

Anyway I want to get it checked out properly, especially if there's anything else wrong with it, so my question is, are Scootling decent or is there someone else you'd recommend? It's currently in the north shore.

    Thanks,

I don't know of any places to fix the scooter, but can give some advice on how to fix it.

My guess would be slipping centrifugal clutch. Symptoms are that it will go sometimes and other times limp along slowly (could try to diagnose by giving it a good push start to get some speed before putting power down). The clutch can be fixed by removing the transmission cover and getting the clutch off (big bolt) and putting on some new brake/clutch shoes and getting the metal housing machined.

They are a good mob at Scootling and would be able to sort you out no worries. Also just over the road is Red Baron who is a Yamaha agent - I'm sure they would be able to sort you as well

Being that it is on the Shore, it may be easier to get it sorted there. I have been told about a crowd called Arlo's Scooter & Bike on Wairau Rd. Could be worth a phone call or quick drop in...
