I wouldn't let anybody paint a bike of mine without seeing something else they'd done first - having dealt with a lot of bodged paint jobs all I can say is chosing solely on price is the dumbest of dumb plans, as is believing anyone can do a factory finish for silly money (and by that I mean a very small fraction of what a professional job costs)

Don't even ham it up because we're talking about respraying fairing not the whole bike. All he'd be looking at is a respray... peel the decals, a light sand and a couple of coats of Fortec or whatever his local sprayer uses for a crate of beer. Get some custom decals off the net and BAM! A fucken creamer Trumpy with a unique skin.

I'm pretty sure the blue ones all got recalled under warranty and painted black.
(it cost Triumph a lot more than $100 each too......).
Keep your cash and wait until one turns up - send an e-mail off to all NZ Triumph agents letting them know your are looking for one if the price is right. One will turn up pretty soon.
PS IMO the white with blue frame looks a bit ....... orf ..... it's the blue frame I don't like.

Yep I bought a new one in February, pretty sure it was the last one or one of the last ones in the country too as I have not seen any since.
They were only made for the 2008 model year and are the rarest and (in my opinion as well) by far the best colour.
And I think you are right, people who own the Blue ones will not sell them in a hurry.
You mean like this one? Clicky Clicky
Pinch it, I'll rip ya nuts off!!!
From rumours Blue is rarer than the scorched yellow ones and even the SE black ones, which is exactly what I wanted. I could have afforded an '09 but piss off having a red or black bike!08 was the only year I could get a unique bike
And let me tell you, to get the neon paint job the same, you'll be spending a lot more than "$500" to get it. Considerably more.
I picked up mine in Jan and I heard there was only one more in the country when I got mine.
They charge about $2k more for the privilege of the white paint and blue frame. Was actually contemplated trading Sonic in for one but it just wasn't worth it (although the paint is insane - blue flecks and all).
be off with ya! Dem fighten words they are. Resprayed black indeed. No imagination you have.
And Funky, you'll be waiting a long time for a blue to come up. Mine's not going anywhere - I've spent too much money on it.
Ok, so the scratch pad (or sandpaper, or whatever you choose), the prepsol, the fortec, the crate of beer... this is all magically appearing for five bucks from where now?
Seriously now, cause you know, you've called out F5Dave and said his post was 'bullshit', and that it can be done for 'five bucks', so come on, let's fucking hear how it can be done. Or are you talking out of a hole that ain't your mouth? Hmmm?
Well just because I've never seen it done, doesn't mean it can't be done... be interested to hear RT's take on it.
It did require custom fabrication of some half washer type things to fit in behind the bearing race to push it out (was a NSR250 and trickier than most), and the use of a bearing press, but there didnt appear to be any damge to it, and I'm pretty sure he's put it all back together with the old ones still in there.
Just found some pics of the white/blue daytona, pretty sexy.

haha Dreamers.
You may see a 'good job' everyone else would see the nine yr old's efforts.
You get what you pay for & I've seen how much work a decent job takes & had several bikes & my van painted, fortunately at mates rates (& paid him more than he asked cause I'm not a cunt to my mates), but that paint wasn't cheap. & I've seen what other people think of as preparation & it doesn't look anywhere as slick as the std job & that is done to a strict budget.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
Yeah I said I can do it for five bucks, and I can because I have a spray booth etc... $5 is how much my supplier would charge me for a litre of topcoat. The point is, if someone wants to respray a new bike, it's only going to require a few topcoats on the fairing and tank, and if someone is prepared to remove the fairing and tank, remove the decals and give it a rub down with a superfine sanding sponge or some 400 grit sandpaper, a FAIR car painter wont charge fuck all to do rub it down (not necessarily with prepsol by the way. That shit has oil in it and can cause problems with some finished. Wax cloth is better. best of all, a good blow down and rub with a lint-free cloth from a compresser that has been freshly drained). I'd estimate that any of the car painters around here wouldn't charge you more than $200 inc. paint if they have the colour you want in stock, or $200 plus the cost of paint if they have to get it in. When you've just spent 15k + on the bike of your dreams, getting the colour right for a few hundy is relatively cheap.
