etch primer is mainly for metal,

you need a plastic primer if using stock abs fairings.

metalic flake - hope you like shaking a rattle can - they need ALOT of shaking!

That I have noticed :-)...any hint on how to do the metal flake? is it just a layer i can put on the last coat of paint? or just a particular colour with metal flake in it?

i think its only something you can learn by doing it, go talk to a paint shop - they actually have good advice on their products.... funnily enough!

good to see some progress on the tank - masking tape will hold water won't it? I use duct tape and band-aids

Plastic welds:
In my dirtbike experience, they're stronger than the surrounding plastic.

On my roadbikes, I sand up the inside of the fairing and use some of that newtech "space age repairer" stuff - it's basically epoxy with carbon fibres in it, you can work it like bog but remember if you stretch it the fibres will tend to align that way. sets rock hard with a good bond to plastic and is fucking strong

just a word of warning: when I repainted my fibreglass fairings the old paint reacted with the new paint and basically ruined the whole job.

That said, I've seen a few bikes done with spraycans on the stock plastic with varying degrees of success.

And finally, there IS a guy on KB who offers to do spray jobs for just the cost of paint.... can't remember his name though sorry

Actually the masking tape did keep the water out - no rust in like 4-5 days of rain! except it pulled a little more paint off when I took it off. I think the last person who idid the job on the tank did a crap job!!

ANYONE KNOW WHO THAT PERSON IS? It's not crazyfox is it?:-P I pm'd him a week or 2 ago with no response....
