As kids, the first year in the French Province, we did the Halloween thing. Was awesome.....by end of night, the beds were covered in candy.
Being in costume was one of the few times any of the neighbours (all French) were nice to us. They really hated the "English' back then

Couple of years ago my kidlets wanted to go trick or treating, we had discussion about the whole americanism thang, but at the end of the day they were just kids keen to score free lollies (duh wot kid wldnt want more lollies?!!) I also explained the whole All Hallowed eve thing to them and also the mexican (I think) day of the dead ceremony (you want more detailed description look it up)
In the end they dressed up as a vampire and a zombie witch n we hit the neighbourhood, there was a surprising number of ppl that were into it and we even took our own lollies to give to the ppl who looked at us like wankers for showing up on their doors - sorta turned it around on them and it gave me a giggle to do so.
I will never forget the IHC house we went to and the reaction we got from a cpl of Downs Syndrome ppl - we made their night! twas cool!!
I have no time for the little hoods who show up with no costumes, but for others who are actually making a nite of it... Good on them, have a damn lolly n show me a trick

Just wanted to wish you a good Halloween day from France, as I know we have 12 hours difference time between us.
So enjoy your day (is that a bank holyday for you?).
Here in France we are not really involved in Halloween stuff and celebration as this is not really our culture and traditions.
But it can be good for children!

    Fuckin beggars. There's a recessoin on y'know.

Bah humbug...oh wait...that's another two months away.
I'm with you. Fuckin Yankee bullshit.

Much better to celebrate a Pommie parliamentary explosion that never happened.

    Either way it's fantasy.
