    National Anthem

As my mates know I am half Indian and half British in no particular order. I have been lucky to experience both cultures for the best part of two decades and have lived in New Zealand for the past 7 and love this country to bits. I was just listening to National Anthems of each country and I really feel a sense of belonging to them all. I am truly blessed in that I was born in one country, have roots in another and have lived most my adult life in another so can associate with them all.

    Are you high ?

Most national anthems are so shit I nearly choke when I hear them, NZ's is so stuffed full of "God defend" something or other it sounds like a christian army marching song..

I reckon the french one is the best. Have no idea what they are saying but the tune etc is cool

The lyrics to the maori version of our anthem are way better than the english ones I reckon. If I could be bothered I would find and cut and paste... but I am too lazy this morning.. plus, theoretically I am working.

New Zealand and Great Britain are both cursed with mournful dirges (I'm with Billy Connelly, the Archers theme FTW!)

...at least living here, I actually have a National Anthem that mentions the f-ing country.

Frankly, the American National Anthem has "razzmataz" and a bit of life to it. NZ's needs a gallon of adrenalin pumped into it, to get it underway. We really need a Banana Republic anthem...

Edit: Sorry. Forgot about the "real" NZ national anthem. That does have a good beat to it!

Only problem is it is too hard for the average drunkard to sing

But when you are looking at the dancing girls and being entertained by the brass band...

The NZ one just makes you want to slash your wrists.

Totally agree that our national anthem is a boring dirge, more of a pathetic hymn really "Oh please god, look after our little country" etc...

Much as I don't like them, you can't compete with the Frenchie job, not too sure of the translation, but it mentions insults, slavery, cutting of throats, tearing mother's breasts to pieces, bloodthirsty despots, and the refrain is something like "Grab you weapons citizens, March and water the fields with their filthy blood"...

And the poms get upset at a minor throat-slitting motion during Kapa o Pango?
    Where's that fucking spanner...

Soviet Union National Anthem (with English captions)

The current Russian national anthem has the same tunes but the lyrics have changed a little; no mention of Lenin and the like.
