Talking Chappy terrific time in Taupo..PMCC

    Chappy’s PMCC round one report

I had planned to compete in the Post classics GP on the Taupo but the Tyre cost (plus entry) was just too great this close to Xmas.

The weather looked great for the weekend – there was some really good competition at Taupo on Sunday. I had adjusted my rear ride height up to create some more turn in….. Unfortunately she was a bit too unstable in qualifying. It was really hard to be smooth in qualifying. I did a 1:18.3 in posties. Good enough to take pole but felt pretty unhappy with the bike. We reduced the ride height back to the VMCC height – went out in F3 and dropped a second to 1:17.3 again qualifying well – 2nd F3 bike ( to Glen W ) but wanted allot more speed to come. I have not been on this track layout for over a year and forgot how bloody bumpy it was. The connection onto the back straight is wicked, everything jumping up and down!!

    Race 1 Post classics
Well I was on pole but had a Dirty FZR1000 next to me… hmmm well I wasn’t gone beat him to turn one so though if I get a good enough start and do a bit of cunning 400 braking I could sneak past and keep in front through the twisty stuff. I had one of the best starts in my life… no wheel stand and all power down – I managed to pull off my plan and rode out the race in front. Happy to start the summer season with a win.

    Race 2 F3
Placed on the grid 4th next to 2 pro twins and GW sitting on pole….. hmmm again I don’t think im getting to turn one first! I went for the original plan good start and hail mary breaking at T1…. Again I got a great launch and did a good job at T1. I put my head down and chased hard on GW after a lap he was gone I managed to stay in front of all the other F3 bikes but had some great tangles with 2 pro twin bikes – I was faster but could get drive on to pass them. Happy with my times dropping to 1:15.420 with Paul b doing a 1:15.423… its gona be a close series!!

    Race 3 Post classics
This time my start was good but T1 was an abortion. I out braked myself letting the might 1000 go through. It took me about 3 laps to work out where I could get him. I was never close enough at T1 out brake so had to be on an entry to another corner. The only one I gained on was the exit of the awesome left hand sweeper, top in 5th I was hitting it. And to pass I had to run a bit wide into that great bump….awesome.
Well on lap 4 I think I gave it a shot, hung on the outside and slipped by. Put my head down and made some room. Taking the win with another good time of. 1:15.470 good to see I could push without chasing someone.

    Race 4 F3
It was a day of great launches for me – I also had an even better start nearly taking 2nd from T1. I think I tagged on to Russell Josiah from the start. No I was passed him so was behind GW. I managed 3 or 4 laps before Dan on his red SV got me into the over 90 degree right hander. Using a bit of cheeky torque to get me on exit. I should have chopped down, but was happy to remain in from of Paul B… Coming home in 2nd.

Overall I had a great weekend. Oh apart from my front tyre warmer crapping out before practice that sucked!! So I was borrowing Lees in between races and when he wasn’t going out. We enjoyed the De Bretts hot pools twice, went out on the town on Sat night….. Taupo does have great talent!! Cheers to lee for dragging us out of the pub before it got too late…..and laxed out on Sunday. Lazily driving home on Monday, PMCC has stepped up and looks like its going to be a HUGE season.

Thanks to Dunlop tyres, the Air force and Hi Tech Commercial Interiors ltd.

Thanks to Marty from Motomart, Dan from Motorad, Team Shower Buddy racing c/o Paul M, Kelly from Randolph Engineering and Kawasaki NZ for their support.

Cheers to Sgt Aaron Carr again for volunteering his time,

    BRING THE TRI SERIES!

Yes finally got myself on KB.
Nothing better than driving a load of drunk people around the countryside aroudn taupo in the middle of the night before racing. Especially when one of them keeps starting conversations with the word Turkish...
