The problem is that people fail to differentiate between race and culture.

I consider many of the elements in Maori culture to be backward & distasteful. But that doesn't mean I hate Maori people.

As an aside, there's very little real racism in NZ. If you want to see real racism in action, then spend some time in Japan or Korea.

I didn't really know there was more than one race in Japan? A Japanese dude told me vaguely about some other people that lived off the coast of Japan or something, that aren't really around anymore? Is that what you were talking about? As for Korea, I thought that there was only really one race there, too... Do you just mean north/south Koreans?

Seems to me Hone’s missing the point. He skives off to Paris after telling his boss that he is sick, cops a bit of criticism from one of his bro’s and then turns around and claims it’s the pakeha’s fault for ripping off Maori.

Given that the Maori Party is doing fuck all and the Race Relations Ombudsman reckons it's OK for Harawera to be a racist Maori as long as he doesn't swear, is it OK now to freely discuss brown motherfuckers who sponge off white taxpayers then only apologise for the language and not the sentiment?

Effectiveness in a politician is a debatable exercise. I don’t think many would make any comparison between the two especially since Bradford was considered by many as one of the most effective politicians in Parliament. I doubt that many, other than Hone’s constituents would hold this man in high regard. Newsworthiness?? Now that’s another issue. Hide for his part may have ‘done’ his chances for re-election so on this score it could be argued that no publicity is better than negative publicity.

As for my darlings, Clarke and Goff waking a sleeping giant I think the sleeping giant would have woken if they had ‘caved’ in to Maori demands. Can you imagine the ruckus if the seabed and foreshore issue went to the courts and Maori won. My darlings did not have the Maori Party to do a deal with and it may well turn out for Key’s good fortune that they did not. I bet ya bottom dollar Key won’t let this go to the Courts either.
