Pity about the weather. Take it slow and carefull over the bridge. Don't want negative publicity on a day when we try and create positive publicity.

    See everyone there.

    Great turnout guys

Hey all, great turn out - good to see everyone turned up despite the weather. Very good feedback from staff at the cafes I spoke to and positive feedback from the public/motorists too, though one did ask why only one bike per bay, so I would agree with her that we need posters or more leaflets pointing out the message for the next breakfast - I am happy to put up my hand to print off a couple of hundred and stand at the traffic lights and hand them out, whenever the next breakfast is going to happen (in a fortnight perhaps?)

How to get our message across

We now need to get simple clear messages out which are consistent undebatable commentary that unites others to our cause.

I think we need to hire a PR Agent for this. Anyone know anyone?

Anyone who's seen the 'propaganda ACC adverts' and so called editorial stories from ACC recently written by the CEO of ACC as though he were an unbiased informed journalist! - then you're probably insensed like me, that they've now even started using our current levvies income to pay for adverts to pursuade us its ok to pay more!

We need to do the same, advertise the positives of biking, the benefits of living life and being active and make biking symbolise something that others also believe in and recognise as worthy of encouraging.

So we need a professional to help, and some joint propaganda of our own and also consistent messages.

If we all had one focal point to raise funds with $10 each would raise enough to do TV advertising from here to Christmas, editorials in press, bill-board ads around wellington and auckland and also get organsied enough to take up key visible parking all day every day around all key government offices (just needs a rota to do that).
MNZ now have a 'Recreational Biking' Commissioner who could be a useful starting point to rally the industry too.

Anyone know anyone who can mastermind a PR campaign? They could help with the consistent messages.

Just heard on National Radio that there were about 100 bikes there. Good on you guys!

They also quoted one Anne James as saying this kind of protest was going to continue until the govt gives us a reasonable answer. I'm so proud of you, Mom!

Yeah, I didn't even try to count them but I would have thought it was way more than that. The carpark was full the main street was full and the side streets had plenty parked up too.

ACC has been very quiet since the newspaper ads.
I think it backfired badly and I suspect they received a ministerial arse-kicking over a misjudged campaign.
