I thought he was within the rules. It's a 150 4 strore chinese motor in a pit bike. The only issue would if it has competition performance parts on it? The motor is based on a CT110 motor. Mine didnt go that fast.

Well at Slipway there used to be a couple of guys who rode there RG150's in the actual races.

I reckon its fine until he starts winning or what not,as it is still kind of within the rules.

It was a 190. It had 17hp but enough torque to spin the world backwards.

What I see is John has a (sold as road legal pitbike that has been re-powered with a 150cc engine). Just like fish has a road bike re-powered. I don,t think it breaks any rules its just a little unconventional.

There has been lots of talk about buying brand new lunchen engines with cams pistons the works going into all sorts of fancy frames its the same thing? isn't it.

I'm of the opinion that as long as it's legal, regardless of how fast it gets ridden, it's fine. Rules are there for a reason. Saying to someone "it's not strictly legal but as long as you don't beat me then it's fine" but the minute they do you bring out the rule book and start telling them they can't play anymore is a little off, start how you mean to continue. If the carb's too big to be legal, put a smaller one on. It'd be like me nyloning up a 250 and bringing it out, will you all say it's fine unless I actually beat someone?

I'd say yes, I really don't see them flourishing. sure they are cheap and easy to get as a starter bike but I believe even good ones are inherently limited to a level that will not allow them to compete with a well sorted bucket. (Given equal riders etc..)

I was referring more to the fact that if a pitbike engine full of competition parts is faster than a tuned FXR/Loncin etc based engine then why bother with a rulebook if no-one adheers to it.
However, John's bike is really the only pitbike out there, he has fun, sure the thing is fast but we don't (didn't in my case) bother too much about it being legal or not quite.

Does mean though that he's limited to racing in Wellington, and if he doesn't know the rules and goes somewhere else to race and they tell him he can't because it doesn't adhere to the rules then he may be very dissapointed. I just think it's easier to get things right straight off the bat than have people getting pissy. For sure if someone turns up with something that we all know is not entirely "legal" let them have a couple of races to see if buckets is something they want to continue with and if so, then they may have to do some modifications. It's like I can get away with having a pretty non-existent back brake here in Wellington, until I crash into someone because my front brake failed and I have no rear brake to stop me, and before I go to Taupo I know I have to do something about getting it sorted. I think at times we're a little too lax with the rules here... and just because "that's the way it's always been" doesn't make it right. Fun is great, that's what it's all about, however how about making a real effort to make sure it's as safe as we can possibly make it for everyone, that also means trying to make sure the rules are taken into account also. Why should there be one rule for some people and not for others? I shouldn't have to wear a back protector, I never fall off (Tui).

Actually I take that back. It's been a sh!t load of work this year, but rewarding. There's certainly been a lot of areas where I could have done better but no-one is perfect.

Mate, you have done a bloody good job. There's always things to work on.

Dear i say it, because i am complete hypercrite. But hopefully the overall presentation of some of the B-grade bikes will improve next year =).

I wasn't criticizing you Nudeys, just saying, if people weren't wearing back protectors, were they told they couldn't race unless they had one? Rules, like I said, are there for a reason.
