so me and the boy went down to the local glass shop and spent $8 on a piece of clear plastic sheet aprox 4mm thick.
i have enough plastic left over for a spare screen.... bonus
i then sat on my little chair and thought up an easy way to make one up.
after looking around the net, and asking the lads on OC i decided on a touratech design.

so the end result a cheap and basic stone guard for my expensive light..

    looks good.

Pic 1 costs $80.34 Aussie dollars plus shipping
    Pic 2 costs ~$20NZ, a bit of time and a few Heinie's

Did you not feel the 6.5 richter scale quake that day?

Actually it wasn't as bad as I expected, apart from zero technique or skill causing the front came down a little before the back it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Had my first garage session with the 950 tonight.

    Removed the big black screen
    Lubed the chain
Adjusted the handlebars one position forward
Transfered the GPS mount off the PD
Reduced the preload slightly at both ends cause it was a very solid ride and I could feel every tiny bump in the road.

    Your not wrong there.
I took it up a short gravel track last night on the way home. Had a bit of a sphincter moment coming round a single lane corner with a big drop off on the outside and merely resting my foot on the brake lever locks it up. I'm so used to being able to jump up and down on the PD rear brake without risk of it locking up.

It also spins up nicely with just a hint of throttle on the gravel

The back end is still way too hard, if I soften that a bit more it might drop it down slightly.

    Finesse, boy... finesse!

You're now riding a fine bit of engineering that works like it ought. You don't have to jump on it like a demented gorilla, it will respond to a caress.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Ja, Ja....Those Bavarian Monsters need a little more positive persuasion..

Now, as for the motorsickle from the Republic of Osterreich, you hit the nail on 'der Kopf' or got it in one....as they say...

I tell what a fine bit of engineering is - genuine KTM crash bars.
I highsided my 950 twice at the FNAR (once from a great height), and the crash bars worked, the only damage was one of the bars was tweaked (soon sorted with a rubber mallet) and der mirror is kaput.

    Der Spiegel..... is Kaputt....
That was lucky then, it seems for the extra bit of weight, they can save the price of the $2200 fuel tank (per side). Mirrors, shmirrors, they are expendable...right?
How did you High Side, not once, but twice? Nice story to be told here....I am sure.

    I actually crashed four times.
But I was only counting the ones that damaged me or the bike.

I was proving to the world what a he-man I was (note the use of the past tense, I have decided after reflection that I don't need to prove anything to anyone but mystupidself), by riding the trail sections of the ride.

The first was when I launched up a rocky slope after a stream crossing and hit a larger rock (i.e. boulder) hiding under the other rocks and was speared off in a perpendicular fashion.

The other was riding down a hill onto a farm track, I found a step/ridge hiding in the long grass, slammed into it with the bottom frame rails, and as a result of the sudden stop was pitched sideways onto the track...

The bike coped somewhat better'n me
    Sprung a rib cartilage
