Thumbs up A testament to good protective gear!

Some of you know i had my first crash last week. Laid down the poor vfr in a fast corner and went for a big slide into a ditch. I was just putting my gear away in the wardrobe where it will sit for a little while, when i caught my first real glimpse of what the two piece and boots did for me.

Scratched leather basically from the top of my right boot all the way up to my waist and the same again on my arm and shoulder! The Astars logo up the leg is melted and somewhat unreadable now lol! The right boot took a huge hit and all the protective parts are now well worn. Even the little plastic bits on my right glove are a tad worn. Luckily my sexy helmet did not get even a scratch :P

But thanks to good gear for the riding i was doing i was able to walk away from a 100km crash without a scratch or a bruise! For anyone out there not using the proper gear (i even have a few friends who i hope will start using gear after seeing what happened to me) please take it from me, its worth the investment! I'd probably look like a meat lovers pizza if it wern't for my gear.

Well said. I've had my arse saved by the gear before today as well. Never go without it...

Good for you... leather is great... my jacket is well scuffed, and my helmet (or what was)... my jacket still wearable, but I would dread what my shoulder would look like if I didn't have it on.

Totally agree there, they might only do slow pace around town, but I can't believe how little those people wear... I guess they also think they are invincabal.

Geordie told me a story last night of... young fella at work wanting to give him a race... 250 v 400... and geordie said no way... the guy was doing 140km along Panmure bridge, with no L plate... what is wrong with these people... short a few brain cells.

Yeah even for shoter rides i will now wear some kind of pants better than jeans. I guess i have been pretty relaxed about it around town until now and mostly just worn Helmet,Jacket,Boots and Gloves as my pants are more trackday/road trip pants due to the stifness and annoyance of stopping all the time. But ill be getting some pants which are more suited to town riding... Been a bit of a wake up call i guess...

Gear is good! And scuffed leathers beats skingrafts anytime.

Just bear in mind that if you slide into anything upright and solid, you will get hurt. Leather or no leather...
And while armour does a good job of preventing impact fractures, there is still reasonable potential for soft-tissue damage.

Had an interesting chat with a young chap at work the other day. He was all togged up in good gear and I asked what he rode, he admitted rather embarrassedly to having a scoot. But relaxed when I was suitably impressed that he took sensible precautions with protective gear.
He laughed when I told him the worst damage I ever did to myself was crashing a CT90. Its true tho. O ok, you can laugh too, it IS pretty funny.
That has been my oft repeated remark on ACC levies too...most damage crashing 90cc farm bike and when Ive been drunk...and they want me to pay excess for my thou? get stuffed. But I digress...

Can't advocate strongly enough the advantages of wearing good gear- just in case. WHile it probably wont be your fault, its better to wreck a set of gear than your body.

The only good thing about the above is they're mostly girls with good legs (and they are few and far between here in Vagas) if they knew a grubby old bugger like me was looking they might cover up.

I'm buying my first bike next week and today went down the shop to sort my gear.
Rev-it Jacket, pants, gloves and boots. OMG, what sexy gear and so comfy. Seems (to my untrained eye) very good quality, thick and strong, armour on the knees and elbows, extra padding along the thighs. I'm not planning on coming off (no-one ever does), but I remember years ago my brother coming off at about 30k and losing all the skin down his legs. shorts of course. That is not happening to my pins.
It's a little pricey (about 2k all up) but hell - My Body is Worth More.

1Tonne have some very well priced kit as well:

I had a look at the Revit gear, and I think it is good (although I am a guy). And then I saw I could get geunine leathers for less from 1Tonne, and well, the decision was easy.

EDIT: I have a female rider friend with this leather jacket that looks good:

    Have looked there...thank you.
But i needed to be able to try it on and walk around a bit to get the feel of it. I'll be wearing it a bit so I needed to know it was going to fit right and be comfortable.
Oh and be vain and look in the mirror at myself.
