The UK,the land of my birth,is rife with violence. Only yesterday my daughter told me of an incident she witnessed where an old gent got out of his car to have a rant at some kids for throwing snowballs at his car and got mercilessly beaten by half a dozen of the scrotes, stabbings are endemic and crime is through the roof but I don't ever remember cases of child beating and wife beating being reported to this degree.

If it is as bad as the press make out it's a bloody shameful state of affairs eh.

really, I left nz because I was sick of all the racist crap that is perpretated by the govt

and pubs in the uk have a lot less grief and violence than NZ

Hmmm, this brings up a relevant point.

The key word you are missing is "reported"

As well as , what constitues domestic violence.

New Zealand has an inordenant number of reports of domestic violence, as well as an unusually large amount of convictions.

Simply raising your voice to your female partner is, by the family court, considered "domestic violence", no matter what caused you to raise your voice.

I don't know of any other country in the world that is the same.

So, given that such an action is "domestic violence", if it reported (by law the police are bound to act on it....charges usually (but not always) follow.

Now, there are several organisations that receive funding (from the taxpayer) to battle REAL domestic violence.

However, in order to get this funding, they need to have statistics to show the government that they are needed.

Basically, the more "reported" domestic violence there is, the more funding they get.

I am pretty confident that we all know some poor guy who had his life damaged by a jilted vindictive woman who used the NZ family court system to punish said guy.

For no reason other than she could.

I agree that NZ has high reporting of domestic violence, but I believe that this is only because of what is considered domestic violence in NZ is not considered domestic violence in most other countries.

The statistical data we are presented with does not break down to actual acts of domestic violence (type), just simply labels it all the same.

I detest men (or women) who physically or mentally abuse their partner, but let's not forget, there is a big difference between "reported acts" and "proven acts"

What does 1 year of supervision actually do? Does it teach Dad how to productively deal with the behaviour? Or is it just there to make sure when it happens next time, she'll be taken away from him. The next time might be too late.

Nothing other than fill in at least one hour in the week of an otherwise unemployable waste of space probably from the same island the waste of space that did the bashing is from(lovely this cultural sensitivity isnt it).Once all the reli talks over(aprprox six months) the meetings will have gone out to once a month as waste of space is towing the line,read as nobodys seen him bashing the daughter.Fucking sad but thats the reality.
