The LTZ's are good (drz 400 motor) and cheap. 700 raptors aren't as mental as ya might think but heaps of wally none the less. the 700 is efi the 660 carbed raptors are mental

On the armchair note... they're not as easy on the body as you might think for a few reasons... you don't have as much choice of lines to pick cos they take the whole track on your average trail ride so you just have to blast over everything, they belly in ruts. they don't steer unless you're going fast and sliding. they have much shorter and stiffer suspension and you get pounded from 4 corners instead of 2 and the obvious catastrophy when you roll them or when you lock wheels with your mates (on quads cos no one on a 2 wheeler likes you anymore)

    Stick with the dirtbike man

Jeepers in 90% of the prangs the bloody things ran over the rider (or is it driver??) ouch
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

ok heres how i see it..... its like dirt bikes and quads are like sport bikes and harleys...they barely tolerate each other but the weird thing is if you look at quad sites you dont see the we hate dirt biker homo thing..and yes im sure some quads do get stuck.crash ,roll, and break down, ...but so do bikes..i think its just because maybe they are different..hell most run the exact same motors as our bikes ..now you guys are gonna think im some kind of mad quad convert....not so ...i love my dirt bike..i just cant understand why the 2 factions cant get on..theres not even a quad forum on KB..after ifuctitupagaindude gets married in feb i will have a serious look..with a few test rides to help make up my mind.....the other thing is im not young and stupid ...im old and slightly less stupid...but ive come out of this experience with buy a quad ...instant homo ...lose your friends, everyone will hate you,
they will fall apart,...it was kinda like when i wanted a bike ... dont buy that 426 it will kill you, they are unreliable ,did i listen .. NAH..and yes it tried to kill me once, has been the most reliable bike i ever owned,...im gonna sit down and weigh up all the pro's and con's ..i may just keep my baby 426 or wake up one morning to find .. i like men,..have lost all my friends..have a strange need to buy spare plastics , and lots of rear tyres and have a new quad parked in the garage ...OR NOT?

ill explain quite simply why i dont like quads, or more to the point dont like riding at the same event as a quad.

1, on a mx track, they always are in the way, and somehow always managed to get tangled into the 2 wheeld bikes

2 at trail rides they do about half the pace of a 2 wheeler, take up the whole track, will never move over to let anyone past. often taking an alternitive option to pass isnt an option as they go just fast enough to make this not work.

3 they get stuck on trails, taking up the whole track, usually on gnarly uphills.

4 they get stuck on trails, then roll over, injuring people.

5 they get stuck on trails, then their operators feel the only method available to get un stuck is to turn around and ride backwards along the trail, usually directly aimed at me, usually just as i come over a rise.

6 their operators seem to insist on riding down the "2 wheelers only" advanced sections, and then getting stuck when the trees get narrow. and therefore block the whole track... again.

7 they ride in groups, just like everyone else, except these groups are part of point #2 that i made, making things even worse

8 they seem to break down more than 2 wheelers, possibly due to their low ground clearance / low airboxes etc

9 they are continuously killing people - just watch tv to see

kimmys bike park has banned quads since labour day, alot of trail rides that used to allow quads no longer cater for them, like boom said they never get out of your way, even though they look back at you and can quite clearly see they are holding you up. they seem to cherrish the gravel roads which they blast past you spraying everyone and anyone with tennis ball sized rocks only to be caught up again 2 minutes later, then the whole thing starts again. i think riding them is all fine and dandy but they should be limited to quad only trail rides or have quad only tracks at trail rides.

if you can afford it, do it, even better if you can keep the 2wheeler as well, have the best of both worlds, its what takes your fanci, f**k what anyone else thinks, don't worry if you lose your 2wheeled friends because of it, they where never really your friends, anyway you'd make new ones.

Ho Hum, I just wish I had a dirt bike to ride all this lovely weather and Im on holiday till the 18th Jan.

Sorry guys just bored, wind you lot up.

my point exactly, luckyly for those guys on 2 wheels that particular crossing was nice and wide, however a lot of the time in nz we dont have that sort of room to use! , once one quad's stuck, thats the whole trail blocked.

and about the gravel thing- yeah id forgotten about that, but that as well!
