    New Chain

Took bike in for 36,000km service this morning (still under warranty). Bad news soon came - "chain has a nasty tight spot in it - needs new chain $180.00 please sir thank you KaCHING!"

But. That oddball rhythmic noise from the transmission - which has been there from day 1 - has now gone...hmmmmm...dunno. Sprockets were OK so left them in place and got the cheaper chain option. Will swap whole set next time.

Why is it that things go wrong when you have no money to throw at them? Mind you, in the time I was waiting I went across the road to the Arai dealership and spent even yet more money on a tinted visor..

    Um...no, they're not.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

+1. If the chain had a tight spot, and you've done 36 thou, the sprockets are far from ok. Expect your new chain to last about 10 this time.

Perhaps I should have worded the original post differently...to read "The man said" the sprockets were OK...

In the olden days I would always have changed the whole set but at the time yesterday I took "the man's" advice. However, after reading your replies and thinking about it overnight, I am not happy with things as they are. So I think we do the sprockets as well...Mr Plastic will have to come to the party again...damn!

You should do what I do - take bike to bike shop for tyres or whatever, go across road to pub, have bourbon while waiting and play the pokies, and get $100 profit out of it -- made my day for sure.
    (last time I played too)

Of course he did. Now next service or the one after it'll be "Your chain and sprockets are done. That'll be $280 please."
    Time to ride
