Yes exactly, the crowd for ruapuna is by far the biggest I have seen in my 5-6 years racing. The advertising was great, heard ads on the radio frequently in the days leading up to it and even saw an ad on tv in the first ad break during the 6pm news! They also had a story on 1 news on sunday night, even though there was V8's in invercargill the same day they didn't get a mention.

TV3 have got the rights to the V8's so TV One wont bother with any coverage.
One had an hour of highlights from Wanganui on in the avo too.

Yes I agree we should be shown a chequered flag to signal a finish lap. But what if there were more laps??
Um, wouldn't the supplementary regs of each meeting then come into play?? It stated x amount of laps, and no one was notified before hand of an increase in laps. So shouldn't it have been taken back to the stated amount of laps? In the superbike class they measure out their fuel exactly to the 1/2 literage. What if Stroudy had run out of fuel on the extra last lap?? Would he have then been able to protest fairly??

Agree fully, even in F3 some teams measure out the fuel for the duration.
However you always have to put a bit more in, just in case there is a Red Flag situation during the race.

So if there was a Red Flag, and a Restart, then the fuel might have been very tight.

We did get the (F3) bike back with a few fumes left in it after one race at Manfeild.
1/2 a litre per lap for a 400 is darn crazy... but that is what it is using!!!

And Round 2 in one of the Pre 89 races I seems to recall an unhappy camper only making it as far as the slip road on the last lap

    You recall well.
Previous season apparently it was 3 laps per litre. Not 2!

But as the Tui Sticker says on the side; She's Still pretty much standard.

Hey... actually it was Motorcycling Canterbury that done a great job, they organised the billboards in town, the numerous trailers with billboards and a whole lot of the radio coverage!

Yep, after my lil' faux pas I trekked around the circuit to different vantage points and the crowd was pretty healthy despite some dodgy weather. Ruapuna is great not just from a riders perspective, you can see the whole track from nearly anywhere and with that stop bank around the track you can just park your car up on it and view in relative comfort no matter the conditions. Great set up and a great crew running the event.

Actually I heard the real reason for the big crowd at Ruapuna was to see the bucket bikes race!

Dont be too hard on Robbie, he is a really good guy and has made the Kiwis lift their game. That is a good thing....

I read a report of this race in the local newsrag.

Is the guy's name BUDGEN or BUGDEN? 'cause the local paper used both spellings - apparently alternately...seems they don't use proof readers any more...

They're all nice chaps at the top level though. It's just a matter of taking the time to say "G'Day" and ask how they're going to break the ice. I reckon it's pretty rare that a rider put's themselves upon a pedestal.

That's all except that Shirriffs chap. Just plain snobby that character..............
