    No one waved at me,

    And never go back. Period.
Well peasea, scooter smooter, whatever, it sure beats first class walking!

But I hear what you are saying doc!

I use one in Christchurch when my bike has been in for servicing, with all my riding gear on I kept feeling I had to explain to everyone around me at the lights!

Personally I feel sorry for scooter riders, because I felt so exposed to danger while riding it!

    The old biker saying that,

" everyone else on the road is trying to kill you", is amplified a thousand times while you are on a scooter, IMHO!

    Agreed!
Especially since almost none of them wear proper gear.
Saw two people on a nifty yesterday wearing short sleeves, jandals and shorts.

Especially their tyres - they are small and unstable. I've watched them on the main road, and they wobble all over the place - not to mention in the wind.

Why not get a real bike? Much more safer and fun too

The vast majority of scooter riders are not real bikers. They have no knowledge regarding bikes and biking. For all purposes and intents they are the "joe public" and for the joe public, scooters look safer because your legs sit behind something (as opposed to being exposed like on a bike) and the position is closer to the position in a car.

exactly, tis not a real bike unless you can get a knee down
Or in my case, unless someone else has been known to get a knee down on it

speaking of which, can harley riders get thier knee downs?

I started off on scooters (proper italian ones with gears and a clutch I might add!) and regard myself as a biker now! But, hooning around against all those Superdreams, RD's, KH's and GT's taught me a lot about machine control and that its not just about the bike but the rider!
That said, I still have a soft spot for those stupid little wheels, pogo-stick suspension, non-existent brakes and lights that wouldn't even attract a moth, ahhh them were the days!!!

Yeah but a harley rider doesn't give a flying fuck if your bike is faster than theirs, their 'Harley' is their ride and thay shall ride it the way they want to, slow, slower of as fast as it can go, not all motorcyclists are speed fanatics..
