    Tyre choice advice required...

Howdy all...........recently got into track days etc on 89 gsxr and havin a blast.
Currently runnin Pirelli Diablo Superbike slicks 160/60 17 rear and 120/70 17 front both roughly half worn. Not sure the wheels are original either.
Been to a couple of shops lookin for advice and hey call me a cynic if you want but i think i would rather go with some end user advice as well.
Not into competition yet, still got heaps to learn. No warmers so a slicks not really my thing im thinkin.
So i guess i want something grippy with a reasonable life span.
    All advice welcome
    Cheers Colin

I know nothing about this. Someone at ART day was talking about these dual compound tyres for mixed road/track use though (Michelin Pilot Power 2 CT):

Sorry phil I assume he wants a track tyre from what he says so a dual compound would not be the right tyre
surprised you havnt had a few reponses but this is the age old question of what tyre will give the best grip for the longest life for the cheapest price

I dont know the answer but I assume you have tried cycletreads
I found most other dealers will try and push you to their brand

Check out other threads as most of you want to know is there

have a yak to your favourite shop about Bridgestone BT003RS - fully roadlegal racebred tyre, constructed and compounded to warm up fast for safe roaduse, so no warmers really needed

Dude the limiting factor for you is your rear tyre. Just getting that power down through that 160 rear. My thought would be a racetec front K1 and a sporttec rear which should be a harder compound.
pirelli do an equivilant tyre and from memory do a hard compound rear

Pretty sure you can fit the 5.5" rear rim and a 180/55 off a newer model in there, look into it, it'll open up lots more options.
