Well, that was sort of my point. Don't get me wrong, I'm not lying sleepless at night worrying about the poor people of Haiti - but there's sure as hell no way I am going to get more upset about the unnecessary and inhumane passing of 33 dogs than I am about ordinary day-to-day inter-human cruelty. The NZ news media, besides not practicing proper journalism, is very much guilty of playing the emotion card - every hour of every day, it's always the same. Celebrities, cute kiwiana DIY stories and of course good ol' violence - the closer to home the better. If it involves fluffy animals that's an instant seller - fluffy animals or pelagic mammals, those seems to be sure fire ways of getting people all hot and bothered.

As I have a habit of saying: grow a fucking perspective - there's more to this reality than what we are being force-fed.

I don't get angry, I get grumpy. Not with you though, we gave up a long time ago. Wreck my self-esteem, you gotta be kidding me. First of all you're assuming I have one to begin with?
I've never met you either, but I'll (I suppose this should really be in past tense) sure as hell let you know when you aren't making sense and if I don't agree with you. No way I am going to take anything out on you though, mostly because the infractions that will have to be passed down when you run crying to the mods just aren't worth it.

Que? Even I would struggle to make up a sentence that convoluted...

Won't have to look long around your area I guess, HIDs on high-beam does seem to aggravate quite a few people.

Far more than meets the eye on this one, and by the behaviour of the ex-dogs' owner on Campbell last night there may well be a few social services that are (OR SHOULD) be involved in his welfare.

The neighbours turned up armed because they were there to destroy the problem dogs as per the signed agreement. If they hadn't had guns then the slaughter would have been difficult and probably inhumane

    Signed agreement

sounded like a lot of bollocks to me
From what I have read & seen he was preasured by the neighbours to sign the agreement.
He had been in contact with the SPCA, they were going to take a few of his pups.
Why then would he let someone murder his dogs
    YES, I said murder
Didnt look like anything remotely humane went on there

The ODT down here used a photo of the dogs'owner wiping (tears?) his face, and you could just see a bit of fur. Illustrated the article without being shocking/gross. Well done, ODT.

My sympathy was with the dog owner because I immediately thought "he is not all right in the head" Like the type of people who keep millions of cats because they "love" them, but can't see that they aren't actually able to cope with that number.

They weren't registered; why didn't animal control know? If they knew, why didn't they do something? Did the SPCA know? Why weren't they notified by concerned neighbours? If they knew, why didn't they do something? Surely someone must have been able to do something about this situation before it came to such a horrible ending.

    Sensationalist bullshit
After naming the bloke yesterday in todays Harold they said he had to have his phone disconnected because of all the abuse.

The next paragraph they go onto say "Mr Mendoza and his wife run Home & Garden Wellsford, " Im guessing that that wont do them much good in the local community.

Interesting comments are appearing from a neighbour of the gentleman in question. "Feeding" the pack of dogs appears to be an interesting experience...

Of course there is worse happening in NZ. I deal with some of everyday at work. And yes it did upset me to see this picture on the front page. I feel sorry for anyone who wasn't as they must be so hard-hearted. Surely there are other photos they could have used. The SPCA staff that attended have been offered couselling because the scene was so horrific.

The Harold also stated that the guy runs a pet business so surely this could have been done humanely. Not by stand over tactics. They stated 33 dogs were killed. Most of these were puppies.

I have had dogs for years and they become part of the family and it is very hard when they go.

They dog that killed the foxy was not even identified. When I came home one day and my dog had been attacked on my section, dog control were powerless to act because no-one had witnessed it and nothing could be proven even though the neighbors dog had fight marks on it. I didn't call for the dog to be shot (only othe owners to be held responsible and cover my vet bill).

There is no way his actions can be justified. He should be strung up.

I used to rescue dogs (adopt to rehome) and have spent hundreds of hours in dog parks, usually doing a bit of butt sniffing myself as the owners in these parts are often very nice bitches.

I'm guessing he woke up to the situation, didnt want to pay $40 a dog to drop at the SPCA, and possibly face fines and other chargers, so signed the paper. Then after the deed with the media knocking, he portrays himself as a victim for the same financial purposes.

They were living in a steel cage and a truck wreck...... the shooters were saving the tax payer and SPCA money....

Were they pit bull crosses? Go to a animal shelter and 95% are pit bull crosses, thats got to say something?

What about factory farming? Has anyone ever been to a meat works and heard the moans? How many kiwi fishermen kill fish humanely with a spike to the brain?

How many times did these dogs make it to a dog park, beach walk, drive in the car. In truth life for many many many dogs is shit.

I presume that ALL of the dogs were micro-chipped?
The labour gubbinment solved all dog-attacks by legislating that all dogs be chipped. Glad that worked...

Hahahaha! Sorry, but that was good. I can relate to this..in my case the wife, and it would have saved me a bundle in divorce dollars.
