We should ban The Hill and flatten it; obviously it's a very dangerous place..

Thanks for the info Pete on the Yanks. In retrospect I should have guessed they were WMCC bikes with those regos. I suppose they aren't used to corners at all, 8 lane freeways being more their thing.
I was in Queenstown doing the inaugural lap of the SI.

Stayed at the Park Royal where they have a bike garage.

There was an American couple on an Electraglide and a Road King, doing a tour, and we met outside the garage.

'Is that your Dewcati in there?' She asks - referring to my Triumph Trophy 1200 (the only bike in't shed).

    '.....yes.'

'We're going to Milford Sound tomorrow - I hope the road isn't as twisty and horrible as it was today.'

Now some of you know what a have-a-chat I am.

I came over the hill yesterday and had a clear run up the UH side almost as far as the roadworks. I was near to scraping my pegs on most corners and not really hanging about. Not far behind was someone on a Harley. I kept looking for the rubberband tow rope...
Didn't really see anyone here seriously attacking HD's about being slow etc. In fact the OP was about the riders, exactly your point.

Slow riders linked with Harleys = you tell me.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Sometimes it's better to smile, nod and walk away shaking your head.

    Well handled.

    Pete

Still should've moved over though of course!

Hey now we Americans can ride the crap out of those hog things. But they are just probably going threw there a mid life moment.

You know the Dragons Tail? In the Carolinas? That bit of road is straight by NZ standards...

There's slow riders on all types of bikes. Really in my experience it's typically the younger 'noob' crowd who think that only sportsbikes can go fast. Heck with some of our roads here in NZ a lot of the time a more 'all-rounder' type would be ultimately faster. And then on top of that, as you said, it mostly comes down to the rider. I was just pointing out that no one in this thread had seriously had a go at the abilities of HD's.
