Sounds like Saturday went well. Looking forward to joining you on Tuesday.

I went up towards Palmy today via Wairarapa, then headed across the gorge to kapiti coast. Was a great ride. About 300k today. Ride went great until I got half way up my road about 10 minutes away from being home (Akatarawa Road). A tourist pulled out of one of the blueberry farms right in front on me, accelerated (Sorry my spelling is hopeless) very quicky to try and "beat the gap", and stopped within about half a metre of my bike passing their nose. Me heading along the road, them stopped completely parallel on the road. Got to put some serious emergency breaking into practice. CLOSE CALL! I think she was driving with her eyes closed.

But I managed to pick my escape path as I saw it happening, point the bike in that direction, and break fast without locking up the wheels. Stayed completely up right, got around the car, good outcome. Needless to say that I couldn't help but let the "finger"slip in their direction.

mmmm It's quite a mission living out here. The only trouble I ever see is from touriest just like that. Good thing I know what to expect.

Safe and sound, pleased with my reaction, and looking forward to a ride with you all on Tuesday evening.

Well done Katie for keeping her shiny side up.

Please note that tourist's are not the only trouble on that road. I hit gravel whilst leaning into a right hand sweeper back in Nov along that road. Bike jumped sideways into a culvert and then stopped after hitting the pipe running under a driveway. I flew for 10-12 feet. The bike only managed 8 feet. Thankfully I got up and walked away from it. The bike wasn't so lucky.

Whenever there are driveways coming onto Akatarawa Rd, there tends to be gravel dragged onto the road at the entrance. You need to watch for this as it can catch you out very easily.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

Hey, someone is muscling in on OUR TURF:

That reminds me of my favourite hypocritical statement - "We don't take too kindly to people who don't take too kindly 'round here"

The parking lot is big enough.

The weather looks good for Tueday night - 6.30pm depart Duckpond and down at Kaiwharawhara Caltex for 6.50pm depart to Makara.

    Enjoy the ride.

Thanks for that Hawkeye. Yep, plenty of hazards. Thank goodness you walked away from that incident!

Looking forward to meeting some more people tonight. See you at the Duckpond.

Seeing as I live/work in Wellington City I really should just meet you all at the Ngauranga/Caltex meeting point but due to finishing work at 5:30, I may as well fill in the time by riding to the duckpond.

    See you all tonight.

Or alternatively you may want to ride out just to Karori and back selecting different routes than the ride tonight, and we'll see you at Kaiwharawhara/Ngauranga - Caltex

Yeah I know. Was a joke. StoneY has 2 options - can go with Eugene up the hill or go with you guys around the Makara track.

Sorry guys - I won't be able to make it tonight. Lovely night for it though.
