Early morning ride to Martinborough - NZ Police motorcycle skills event

This week at both the Tuesday and Alternative Wednesday evening rides it was mentioned that the NZ Police are conducting a motorcyce skills event in Martinborough this Sunday, 28 February.

An early morning meeting point and ride is posted on the calendar here:
Early Morning Ride To Martinborough 28 February - New Zealand Motorcycle Skills Event

Though you may not want to join this particular early ride, Bald Eagle has also posted up a calendar event indicating your interest to attend the motorcycle skills event here:

Errrggghh, just remembered I've borrowed my Aunty's car (bike parked up at her place in town). Not sure if I can cope with how early I'd need to get up to be there....

Great to see NZ Police doing this sort of thing. Why Martinborourgh? Are they doing this sort of thing in the Wellington region?

Gidday Elle, will see ya there.

Mal, hi I actually came across the post put up by Bald Eagle and thought well a ride co-ord this side of the hill may be worthwhile. Actually next Alternative Wednesday ride is the Three Hills and so any novices riding tomorrow can get a bit of a look in as we take in Wallaceville - Mangaroa and Rimutaka Hills.

I spoke to the contact over there in the Wairarapa this week (per Bald Eagle's post) and the event will only be called off in the event of rain. Rain? what's that the weather is glorious this week, and a ride up the hill today was excellent. I am not aware of any Wellington skills event being organised by NZ Police but will of course ask tomorrow. I don't know why it was setup for the Wairarapa but who cares, makes for a good mornings ride and come back around the lake.

Six of us arrived at the meet point and indeed rolled into Martinborough bang on 8.30am to be the first registered and start the skills circuit.

Quite a few riders then headed on down to Lake Ferry, and meanwhile two other riders and I returned to Wellington via Lake Wairarapa, it was very windy heading back to Featherston and a little breezie on the Rimutaka Hill.

My apologies to Dave and Mel from Otaki, I am not too sure whether you left with the group to Lake Ferry from Martinborough. We waited at the Lake Ferry/Featherston turn off a few minutes before proceeding on around the lake.

    A good morning overall.

Hope the ride back was enjoyable Buck Buck. We had a great ride to Lake Ferry, a good lunch, then also came back around the lake. Boy oh boy it was windy on the flat. But a good ride none the less.

Hope you all enjoyed the day as much as me. I just wanted to keep going today.

    See you on Tuesday.

Thought they must have been laying in wait for Stoney!

Cheers Katiepie, remember the $2 shop - packet of tennis balls, cut them in half, find that quiet parking lot, and a way you go. You can set up your own salom course - close and spread further apart for counter-steering, your own box and figure eight/looking back over the shoulder where you want to go, your own narrow corridor twenty metres and slow ahead clutch/throttle/rear brake, and so it goes on. You are only limited by time available in your own schedule, time spent in the slow bike control skills is time well spent.

See you Tuesday, and you done did well today
