this system is unnecessary, teaching people how to drive would be a much better idea, but like always with our Govt they attempt to fix the symptom rather than the problem but even then they're trying to use a band-aid to fix an artery bleed

50 million would not even cover the forms to fill in. You are talking 500 million to do that. Just to put things in perspective.
Its not like Sex ed. - you cant chuck a daihatsu (car equiv to a condom) at a driver and tell them to drive safe (no rubber no hubba hubba).

50 Million? That sounds about right for the con-job that has been pulled on taxpayers for this bullshit system. Someone probably got rich and retired young because of it.
Simply ignore them. They have not improved the flow of traffic, but have added to the conjestion.

Parking problems will increase during the Thugby World Cup,
..... and yet they are trying to tax motorcycles off the road.

I was just taking a cheap shot at rugby, nothing personal, sorry if I offended you, twaz just a piss take.

Tell you what though; traffic in Auckland is a joke now, what's the rugby world cup gonna do for it? Nothing positive. The fact that Auckland was chosen for the rwc was just another reason to leave town for us.

Ok took that the wrong way then, the whole. Fair enough it'll be great for the economy, (we hope) but with a bagillion (yes that's a standard unit of measurement) foreign drivers on our roads, especially ones that aren't aware of our left turn rule, it could mean more danger for bikes on the road. Yay.

Whose economy? Yours? Mine? I seriously doubt the average Joe will see one cent of any fiscal boost from the rwc. The rugby commuinty, some construction big-wigs and a few suasage salespeople will but that's about it. I can recall the America's Cup being touted as a boost for the economy blah, blah, blah. Maybe if you're a sail maker......It didn't do squat for my bank balance but I vividly recall trying to get across town in a wee Toyota Corolla; that was bollocks. Nup, not interested, glad to be well away from it all. In fact I hear Nelson is getting a game or two, must check the dates and get out of town that w/e.

Yea I get what you mean, I guess in a "big" city like Auckland the benefits of alot of tourists wouldn't filter down to average joes, cos stores wont be lowering their prices much, they'll be loving the fact that heaps of people are buying their goods at full prices and the bigwigs will enjoy the profit.

And yup, traffic will be even more of a bitch.

Yup, same thing happened down south. Wanaka and Queenstown (et al) are getting too expensive for the locals to live in. That sucks big time. Camping grounds and family-owned plots with cribs galore are being replaced with apartment blocks, hotels and trendy cafe`s. Yick.

So no Apple 2, Commodore PET, Atari 800 or Texas Instruments Ti99's made it over here then?

I don't really know as I don't commute often - but they seem to have neither made it better or worse - just relocated it - about 100m per million.

The Police were busting improper vehicles on the T2 lane at Mt Wellington, 8.00am this morning.

Oh they did, but sadly not a lot of money lying around for that kind. However there was a national issue of IIe's in the late 80's I don't know if they made it into this particular area of policing.
Of course it would be very hard to record video on anything but analog format using old cameras and hand made DMI's.

Truth be told I shudder when I see any SCADA or telemetry system which is pre Win98 or 9600bps serial ports........its like the equivalent of riding with pee-shooter pipes in bike years.

Have any of you ever stopped for those red on ramp lights? I don't get up to auck too often but never stop for them when they are on. I can merge safely without a light.

Mmmmm....running red light bad m'kay. HUUUUUUUGE fine. You really don't wanna be caught doing that. They're there for a reason and it's simply to create gaps in the traffic since many Kiwi's are unable to grasp the concept of "merging like a zip".
