A problem with this "modern" society is that a whole lot of harmless behaviours have been demonised. That's why there are no male primary school or pre-school teachers. That's why nobody sends their sons to Cubs or Scouts. That's why teachers aren't allowed to swim with their students. That's why fathers who bathe their daughters unsupervised are taking big risks from disaffected former spouses.

There's little harm in taking Rover for after dark walkies or sitting in one's driveway enjoying the youthful exuberance of kids going to school. I worry more about the headspace of people who are troubled by and suspect the worst in such behaviours rather than by those who exhibit such.

Actually Mrs O/r and have just been looking at 60 minutes on the program about bloody paedophiles on the internet!

While I feel a bit pissed off being lumped in with these sort of bastards just because we are old, I can empathise with those who feel suspicious.

Especially when you see these things being exposed, like the pricks in the video clips in this thread.

If it comes right down to it I would rather put up with the suspicion and have people even brand me than ever have one of these bastards escape detection!

My only plea is that the law get on with finding and really punishing these"criminals" but they seem to namby pamby them and place more concern on their rights than those of their victims and meanwhile contribute to the branding of all of the innocents who do not behave in this manner!

I felt a bit pissed off with the OP but now I can understand how he felt in asking the questions that he did.

For all those that offered me support for my post and feelings, thank you all very much but then nobody ever said life would be easy!

And big Dave, I hope you got your monies worth out of the doll.

Nah he lumped you in with them just because he didn't think. I had my turn doing that, and I'd say he got off lightly.

My concern with the tone of the OP is that of assumption - the old guy watching the kids is automatically dodgy (well, that's the way it reads even if that's not the intent).

There are lovely people and horrible people in all age groups and sectors of society. I've been heartened by the number of people in this thread who have jumped to the defence of the chap (and who he might represent) in the op. However, remember that kids who are little shits often grow into obnoxious wanker teenagers who continue this trend into their adulthood - what's going to change when they become elderly, if they live that long? Probably nothing. Everyone jokes about mean spirited old ladies (right up there with the good old "motherinlaw from hell" parody in all sitcoms/drama series on the almighty telly). Who knows that the next old fulla you walk past might not have been a real prick in his younger days, and may still be!

What I'm saying is that you can't make blanket generalisations that just because someone has past a certain age they suddenly become a sweet old dear who we'd all love as their granny.

Get to know them, or at least make a friendly wave. Even if they were shits in their past it doesn't mean you have to hold it against them forever, and the only benefit that if they actually were a perv who you'd want your kids to stay away from is at least they can't run fast to catch them any more. As for what might be going on inside their heads, who really cares as long as it's not acted upon. Sheesh, I bet every single person on this site would have ended up in the slammer or the loony bin at some stage if the thought police had been onto us!!

When I am old I want to look at young legal hot chicks. Nothing wrong with that.

It will be a bit like a dog chasing a car... even if you caught it, you wouldn't know what to do with it.....
