Tyler Firn BRM Summer series Rnd 3

    13/14 March
Bike Rider magazine Summer series Rnd 3
    Saturday/ Practice day
It was absolutely freezing when we arrive at Taupo, it was cloudy and the wind was picking up. I was having a hard time getting to grips with the 2 stroke again after five weeks off it, and only riding the Hyosung and the F4 bucket in between. As the day went on the track was heating up and I was feeling a little more comfortable and pushing a little harder. Our last outing I was really feeling into it and pushing myself through the corners until turn 2, I wasn’t in the right place, right speed, and I was far to close to Ryan, I gave the front brakes the slightest of taps which spun the handle bars, dropped the front and threw me on the ground to slide from one side of the track into the middle of the grass. I left the bike and ran to the fence until the end of the session when I could inspect the damage. Front and right hand side fairings smashed, right handle bar along with the peg were bent into funny positions.
We had a great crowd of people around the bike helping to straighten things out for racing on Sunday.

    Sunday/ Race day
It was quite chilly again early in the morning, but the windless blue sky was looking promising. It did heat up and we set out at 10.45 to qualify, which I was relatively nervous about. I gave it a go and qualified in 7th place which was a disappointment for the series but was still on the second row so I was happy.

    Race 1
I wasn’t feeling to good about the way the bike felt in the warm up lap but was going to give it a good go anyway. I had an amazing start moving from 7th to 3rd by turn 1. I was getting a wave like motion from the back through all corners. I completed two laps and pulled of on the third, I changed my mind after I had entered the pit and discussed it with Dad and went back out to get the points. I finished the race in 8th place with Daniel Mettam in first and Ryan Firn in second.

    Race 2
I had another relatively good start and made my way into 3rd place when Ryan decided to pass me between turn 2 and 3. I held off David Croft and Max Woodrufffe until lap 3 where I slipped on the white lines coming back onto the front straight. I finished in 6th place with Daniel and Ryan back in first and second.

Although I didn’t have the best results I still had a great weekend. Ryan has now past me to gain first place and Daniel Mettam is running very close behind me in third.

Buggar dude, hate it when that happens!! I was gutted to miss it but we have decided that my bike is an easy fix so I am going to keep it. It has a new piston in it already, so looking forward to getting out there again soon!

    See you at Kaitoke

That crash looked real bad from up top mate. You slid for an almost unbeleivable distance. We were all happy to see you stand up straight away.
It was a shame to see you struck with that set back - watching you and Ryan battle it out every lap of the race is usually one of my highlights of a race weekend.
Great to see the bike patched up so quickly and you back out there.
I have to add... you really made Sam's day when she realised that she had finished ahead of you after you pulled in.
See you out there next time.
There is no dark side of the moon, really, as a matter of fact. Its all dark...
