    Save the Speedway!

As you may or may not be aware the Auckland City Council is up to its dirty tricks again in trying to get rid of the Speedway at Western Springs.
You may recall all the drama in 2004 when there was the march and also the petition that raised approx. 56,000 signatures in support of the speedway.

The current council has decided to invalidate that petition that was accepted unanimously by the previous council. That means we have to start all over again The Western Springs speedway club has an online petition going. Please go the link below and add your name - takes less than a minute.

I was on that march, dirty council tactics I say.
I signed that petition as soon as I saw it. (Both times.)

    Fucking cocksucking council!
Start harassing some of the moaning residents, the track was there long before they moved into the place, so they knew what they were in for!
    Bloody latte society.

I have such fond memories of Western Springs
My ex used to race side cars there
Our son was born at St Helens Hospital just up the road ,on a saturday night, I could hear the racing at the springs as he was born.
His dad finished the race meeting, then came to the hospital after the piss-up in the pits.

    Again?!? FFS!!! Signed.

Raise the Western Springs home owners' rates (those that are complaining) and use that to build a new track/venue somewhere more "palatable" for those whingers. See how they moan then...

I'd sign the thing too, except that I wonder how much notice would be taken of the siggys of people who do not live in the area, or use the speedway?
Other than the erosion of the rights of many over the rights of the few, what has it got to do with me (eg)?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The funny thing is......if they were that concerned about it - why don't they put their money where their mouth is and pay for its relocation.
Signed - and I open the ranch slider at home to listen to it.

But that's just my point. I never have, and probably never will.
So - apart from the distasteful idea that one or two individuals can screw up the fun of many - what does the Western Springs issue have to do with anyone who doesn't live there or use the facility?

Would you want support if the same thing was going to happen to your local raceway/track/stadium etc?

Naturally. Just as I'm happy to support WS.
    But my point still stands...
Will people who sign, but live outside the area, be discounted?
I mean, I could hardly be taken seriously if I complained about the noise from WS, could I?

Our signatures should still count. I don't live near it but still go there. Everyone who lives in the area knew what they were getting in for when they bought their house, and if they didn't then they should have done more research about the area before they moved there.

I agree completely. Like people who buy houses near schools and complain about the noise of children playing! And then theres those that buy houses near the airport.....

Signed when it came up on another forum recently. Even though i havent been there, id love to go when im next up that way and somethings on!
