Well, post number 76, not the 600 I was hoping for but you get that.

I have seen the footage on TV and can't understand why the cops would even want to go near the plonker. Why not just leave him in the cell until he calms down? (Or is that too easy?) To me, and probably the judge, it looks like the cops were just having a bit of fun ('fun' as determined by the NZ Police and not the Webster's dictionary) and they got caught doing it. However, as Scummy says, the thirty grand won't be coming out of their pocket.

There will be no disciplinary action so they are not likely to a) give a fuck and b) change their ways. This will result in people like SPB and myself retaining contempt for the (majority of) NZ Police. OK, again to quote Scummy, cops get spat on, abused and their genital (singular, as Scummy posted, although how you can have 'genital' singular is beyond me) attacked but nobody asked you or forced you put that blue uniform on and as sad as it may be such behaviour toward the police is probably a daily occurrance. If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen. It's like moving into a house next an airport and moaning about the noise. You KNOW what to expect when you sign on so suck it up.

Should police HAVE to accept such abuse? Probably not but the days of the average bobby being an upstanding pillar of society who is beyond reproach are sadly behind us. Too often we hear about, read about or fall victim to cops whose moral standing is at best questionable. They screw up and they keep fuckin' doing it.

Not so long ago one of our local (married) bobbies was sprung having an affair with a local 20y/o woman. I have no respect for guys who behave like that, uniform or not, but because he is (possibly was) wearing the blue uniform I, and most of society, expected better from him. If he is still in the job and he stops me for any reason I'll mock the crap out of him.

Seriously; for the general public to respect, support and trust the police they need to sharpen their act. Sure, the abuse and the assaults on them are probably countless and the number of times they screw up are a drop in the bucket by comparison but when they do screw up it drags the whole bunch into the mire and the stigma lasts for ages. Perhaps they should look at each other and themselves once in a while.

I didn't think to count how many cops were present when that guy got pepper spayed but out of all of them there didn't appear to be one, not one, officer trying to put a stop to it. Out of half a dozen or so cops there didn't appear to be any level-headed individuals present. It's like a pack of wolves round a cornered deer. If they'd just left that twat in the cell overnight the taxpayer would be thirty grand better off right now.

Because 'phone book therapy' and 'wet fish justice' has got a few cops in more than a little trouble with metrosexual tree hugging hairy armpit types. And sadly, they can make someone's life pretty fucking miserable.

The details look like more than a 'thick ear'.......A sickening brutal act by a bunch of thugs.

When I was teenager our local bobby used to check us out round the bays (Wellington, out past Worser Bay etc) on Friday and Saturday nights. To prevent us from drinking and driving he'd take our piss off us. No charges, no pepper spray and no drunk drivers. Sure, it pissed us off at the time and I've no doubt the piss ended up at the police bar but not a bad idea eh? That guy knew shit from chewed dates.

It's just a shame that blokes (and blokettes) like that are, seemingly, the minority these days. Apparently our local is an ok guy, they call him the 'Claytons Copper' coz he's the cop you have when you're not having a cop. I've not met him yet (coz I'm a straight-arrow, law-abiding member of society etc) but apparently he keeps a lid on things without a bolshy attitude. You're more inclined to have a beer with a guy like that than some little Hitler. Respect; it's a two-way thing.

Even with video evidence these guys basically walked. Oh yeah, some minor internal twaddle but not what you or I would have got under the same circumstances. One rule for us and another for them.

From what I saw on the video (granted I wasn't there), it was a tad excessive! LOL!
Surely between the officers there they could have physically subdued him dispite his size and "mind set".
As I said, I wasn't there but fark...that was a lot of spray!

The bottom line is; what they did was excessive. He was sprayed sixty-something times FFS. He was in a cell, they should have just left him there but no, they had to have a go coz they're a bunch of fuckin bullies.
