The Brevet Club at the entrance to Chch airport.
in this case Brevet refers to the "wings" awarded to air force pilots when they are qualified.
The Brevet club was established as a fundraising memorial club to former airmen, the funding was to go towards their well being as they got on in life, [a bit like the RSA ]
The building they had on the corner of Russley Rd and Memorial Ave was a venue for hire, for weddings, dances and other such functions. This building was in place from the early 1960's till the late 1990's early 2000 era.
I think the Brevet Club got less active as the years went by, the building and site were sold, the roundabout that is at that intersection took up a lot of the site that the Brevet club buildings were on. The land I believe, is now owned by the CHC Airport Company
It was quite a stylish building for its day, essentially aerodynamic in shape, the ceiling was all varnished Rimu if I remember rightly
I think the Brevet club still exists, I am sure there is a Brevet room at the Wigram Museum, this is also let out for functions, as is the hall of aircraft hangar. Whether or not the club has a tie up with this facility I dont know.
The 2nd pic is the entire wall, again IIRC the yellow beam you can see was part of the buildings construction they went around the building and held it up.
