Well after declaring that "I would never own one of those ugly Multistradas as long as my ass points to the ground"...I went and bought one yesterday. 04 1000DS in red. I traded my F650 beemer and a Hyosung 250 for it. Took it over the "takas" today....farrrrrk what a bike....Like the Beemer on steroids and with Staintune mufflers make a real ducati sound. Another keeper for my expanding ducati stable. Cant see the fugly front fairing from the riders seat, but its looks are growing on me.

I think it's because I grew up with stingray and Thunderbirds and shit, it's kind of a vision of the future that never really arrived. I don't suppose anyone remembers the hover bikes in fireball XL5 do they....nah, jeez I'm getting old.
Ha...there's 2 in Te Aroha. Town must be full of pooftas. They're actually quite nice to ride.

Weird bike that everyone take the piss out of. The TDM. She's a keeper. I'll NEVER sell her unless I have to.

Had a red K1 a few years ago, you either love em or hate em. I still look online for another. You could try a K1200RS, more power, less vibs.
But if you've got the bug , nothing else will do.

The XLV750 was another bike people didn't get,and I'd like another one day.I was behind a Buell one day going up some tight twisties, and I was nearly running into his back tyre on every corner.Later at the next pub he looked at the Honda a bit puzzled and asked how did it handle with such a big front wheel and all the weight so high? If he had of looked in his mirror he would of seen his stupid sportsbike was getting in my way.The best bike I've had for going up saddles....The Forgotten Highway was fun on that bike.

    One day...
Years ago, I read a series of limericks in a bike magazine about the "notorious " bikes of the day - like the Munch Mammut and the Yamaha 500 mx etc. The one about your choice (all 1500 cc's of it) went....

A magnificent bike was the Munch
Of cc's it had, oh a bunch
And the view from the seat
    Was Germanically neat
But a Z1 would eat it for lunch.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

It's rolling art that looks like Jean Paul Gaultier (the fifth element) walked into a bike shop and started working with carbon fibre.

    I have a hankering for the B-King.

My mates just look at me pityingly whenever I mention it

For me - it's the spiritual successor to the Katana and I loved my one of those as well

Yep it is. Came with a set of colour matching blue leathers (need to loose some weight...), the original heated vest (yep, BMW was sooo before their time: You plug it in and you are warm as toast! Just need to remember to unplug when you get off the bike...), fitted performance chip, new tyres, rear hump, tank bag, rear bag with side bags, manuals and all original books. There is a whisper that motor was sent back to Germany for serious modifications by first owner (I am only 3'rd owner). Will find out.

She is like my K100 on steroids!

Will add pics on the w/e.

    I am a happy chappy!

If I could I'd own every single one, I don't think there's a bike out there that truly has no appeal to me.

Although the one which noone seems to understand... would have to be one of the first GSXR1100s. I don't care what they tell me, they're gorgeous bikes and an icon at that.

I can sort of relate to that: When I was studying and needed to find some extra dollars to pay the bills, I used to buy old bikes, fix them up and make a dollar or two out of selling them. But each time I had completed a bike and it was ready to sell I did not want to part with it. And we are talking about stuff like 125cc 2 stroke dirt bikes, 250cc learner bikes etc. I would sit watching my work while having a beer and after having been for a ride or two with the bike and found my self thinking: "She is quite fun actually. I might not sell her. I just fix up another one and keep this one..." But then I used to come to my senses. Or as it was: My oldest boy used to wake me up from my draming with his: "FFS dad, this is not one of your customs. Your old mates would laugh at you if they knew that you are getting all sentimental over a old 250cc jappa..."
