If it's a telecon Thomson thingie then be aware that the default password is uppercase. Try initially turning off encryption on the wifi modem. If it's wireless N then initially set it to wireless G only. If it's win XP and you change a wireless setting on the modem then it's easier to just erase the wireless network settings on the PC (symptoms are it never gets an IP address). Avoid 3rd party wireless "helper" applications when possible. If you're still stumped then get a helpful kiwibiker to help yer.

Pdarth....what Kev hasn't mentioned is that he is currently in OZ so the kiwi vodafone software may have wrong APN settings and suchlike.

Kev, unplug the other PC from the network (or turn off it's wireless). Plug in vodyfoney stick thingie. If it doesn't work in the other PC then chances are it's a vodyfone problem and not your lapdog.

if it is a NZ SIM, then there is a slim chance it has not been enabled for roaming - but be carefull, roaming data is very expensive. Cheaper to go and get a pre-pay SIM locally.

Cheers for all the help people, my dads mate sorted it out in the end. It took him about 6 hours to get it going.

Same here, I'd rather pay a pro to do something properly from the start than to fuck it up trying to DIY.
