I have heard its really expensive to get an AMA licence? The mx guys said like 10k or something stupid? What are the costs involved over and above the standard that we wouldnt really think of....

Im sure i saw him near the pointy end in most races, from what i was told he was just doing it for a bit of a play and he was riding on diff tyres and a 600 that he wasnt used to.

It is cool that he is doing well in AMA though its an inspiration to other riders.

I think Shaun should put a thread up on what it would take for a rider to just go to america and do a round? Is it even possible to do it by yourself?

the big cost is the medical insurance, not so much the racing liceince, you also have to get a sporting visa or a work permit so you can collect the prizemoney and contingency, it can be done,

I sense a wee bit of the kiwi knocking machine in action here from wayne I have to say. Well, it seems that way.
In my opinion it is irelevant what Doms results are. He is over there, far away from home, mostly on his own (sure he will have built a retinue of mates by now) and living his dream.
I have done it myself, not in bike racing, but in my career of science, and there is no better feeling than to be living and working around the world.
    9th, 15th, 20th, who cares?
1st would be awsome and everyone including him would be thrilled to see it, but what stories he will have to tell to his kids ay? (That is assuming any woman would be crazy enough to let him touch her!)
The suggestion above of a sort of manual of what is needed to be done from a technical viewpoint would be a very useful resource I am sure.
Goes to show that it can be done and that you don't need all the money in the world to get going, mostly just the decision to do it and then do it.
Good luck to him and anyone else that goes and has a go.
Now, when is that NZ Moto2 team getting formed. I am first in line to be a part of that!

I don't think there is too much of a "knocking machine" ( a terrible Kiwi trait) going on here Steve, just some reality.

I really would like too see Dominic come good in the series (just the fact he is there gives him credibility, as well as his supportive parents), I try to follow his achievements, and would really like too see him further up the field (I can remember his first National points race, you where there too actually).

I am not knocking him, far form it actually, Shaun pointed out that he is "doing everything himself", but that is nothing new for him, or 70% of the competitors at the IOM, or anywhere else for that matter.

Perhaps just a case of "tough love"
