Yep, and it's always easier to try stuff on before you buy so that you know it will work and you wont have to post ot back and wait if it doesn't.
Leather Direct have an awesome range of all types of leather. Can't go past my favourite shop TSS Red Baron in Lower Hutt. If they haven't got it they will probably try there best to get it for you!![]()
DO you know exactly what you are looking for? Fit is only one thing to keep in mind.
You also need to be looking at
The purpose to which you will be putting the gear. No point getting race leathers if you are commuting and so on. Each purpose has it own specs.
the weight of the leather,
which part of the hide its cut from
thread type and length of stitch
how many lines of stitching holding the seam together
Is the armour located correctly for YOU, if not can it be shifted easily
is the apparently double layer actually a double layer or just a separate section top stitched in place
Other makers/suppliers/repairers can add to this list.
As a note, 'name brands' are not necessarily a good buy. I have repaired all sorts of gear over the years and trust me, there are some brands that go for top dollar that I wouldn't touch. More in the cordura ranges, but you do have to watch imported leather gear.

Good post Ratti, those that have been in the industry for a long time know this, there are some new entrants to it which offer absolute garbage but have been reasonably successful based on the low cost, this has without doubt (as said in this thread) blinded people to the garments quality, which is unfortunate as I Know it puts riders safety at risk.
Lastly I think people should take note of some of the outrageous claims and statements being made, which again as I have been in the industry for years (not just Qmoto) I know factually that these claims are complete B.S.
So people buy any brand you like, but my message is, buy on Specification, not on price

So true. I have a pair of trou on my bench at the moment that fall into that category. The purchaser bought them off TM as waterproof cordura. He wore them for two weeks and no tonly are they not waterproof, the seam has frayed in the crutch and is starting to give on the centre back seam where it bends around the riders bum. The cordura is only 500d and the
"waterproof" membrane is a joke. The coating is peeling and cracking in the crutch seam already.
While I could repair the crutch with a gusset, I have had to contact him to say I wont repair them because of the cb seam giving way. Like Quasi, it's about being able to sleep straight at night. No way would I fix this rubbish as a rider will be relying on them and I KNOW the gear wont do the deed.
These trou were not even super cheap ones which adds insult to injury. I'm supporting the chap in hassling the seller for a full refund, which at this stage the seller is refusing to do. Be careful people, there is a LOT to be said for spending the extra and buying from a shop where you can actually see the seller.

The Best and largest range of gear is only at one place and that is TSS Redbaron in Cuba street Alicetown Lower Hutt
Talk to Sam Fitzgerald at Celtic leathers.
I'd dispute that, they had nothing that fits me in stock. They were brilliant at saying they;d get it in for me, but I wanted to purchase that day so they missed out. I ended up at Motomart and they had 4 different brands of gear in stock that fitted me. Depends what you are looking for perhaps.

Well they do have the largest range of gear in Wellington and thats a fact maybe they had sold out of your size I know they get damn busy But I suppose they cant keep everyone happy but im sure they give it a good try.
Yep, I used these guys before they started helping me out. There were closer bike shops (I'm 90mins away, over the 'taka's) but none compared on service and range. They use the stuff they sell and can speak from experience, eliminating the trial and error on what can be very expensive investments.
Quasievil (Brett) is also a top bloke who knows his stuff and wouldn't put you crook. I've tried some of his gear (the combined chest/back protector is a beauty) and would rest easy following his advice and/or buying his products.
