    Spies for Rossi's factory Yamaha

1.11.11 Riders who enter the Championship for the first time (Rookies)
must be entered by a non factory team.

Note: it says must be entered by a non factory team, Spies and yamaha have done this.
As some of you had already mentioned, Fiat yamaha can go 2 more races without fielding rossi's bike, so expect to see moves come catalunya. Please read the rules on replacing an injured rider below.

1.11.3 Each entry commits the team to designate a rider to compete in all the
events of the Championship in the chosen class. Exceptions can only
    be made as follows:

    i) A team may withdraw a rider from an event which has already
started, due to injury of the rider, irreparable damage to the
motorcycle(s) or in case of "Force Majeure". A withdrawal for
medical reasons must be supported by a letter from the Chief
Medical Officer of the meeting or the Medical Director.

ii) A team may withdraw a rider from additional events in the
Championship only for medical reasons or other reasons of
"Force Majeure". Withdrawals for medical reasons must be
supported by a letter from a qualified Doctor and are subject to
verification by another medical practitioner appointed by IRTA
at its own expense. DORNA shall then have the right to
require an additional examination and verification by at least
two other medical practitioners appointed by DORNA for that
purpose. In the event that the medical practitioners appointed
by DORNA do not support the opinion of the medical
practitioner appointed by IRTA, the following shall apply:

    a) the opinion of the medical practitioners appointed by
    DORNA shall be deemed to prevail;

    and

    b) IRTA shall pay all costs incurred in the examination and
reporting by the medical practitioners appointed by
    DORNA .

Teams must make every reasonable effort to provide a qualified
substitute rider to fulfil their entry obligations. However no substitution
or replacement of the entered rider may be made after 10H30 on the
first day of practice except in the MotoGP class when the limit is 2
    hours before the qualifying practice

iii) For reasons not being medical reasons and not being reasons
of "Force Majeure", and subject to the Team obtaining the
approval of IRTA and then subject to IRTA obtaining the
approval of DORNA/FIM (neither of whom shall be obliged to
give reasons for any refusal to approve), a Team may replace
a rider which that Team has entered in the Championship with
another rider ("replacement rider") for remaining rounds of the
Championship. Only one replacement of a rider will be
permitted per season. Exceptional circumstances will be
    examined by IRTA and DORNA/FIM.

1.11.4 If a team is unable to provide a substitute rider, then IRTA may decide
to allow another team to enter a rider, on an event by event basis, to
reach the required number of entries. Article 1.10.1 will apply to all
    replacement and substitute riders.

The last paragraph to me is key to spies being elegible to sub for rossi on his bike.

Going back to the rookie rule, it only states that he cannot enter the championship with a factory, team it never states anything about subing or extraordinary circumstances such as the one we see today. Which tells me there is a loop hole yamaha could have spies on the bike by catalunya.

    My two cents.

the context is copied and pasted from the FIM web site, 2010 GP regulations.

Silverstone is a 1st time race for all riders in MotoGP, Spies could WIN this one, and it can be done!

would be good to see spies on a factory ride for silverstone. He would have a real good shot at winning on a factory ride. I think that he could still take victory on his Tech3 yamaha though

yamaha should be smart enough to basically do a color swap on the factory bikes. Basically give edwards or spies the team and the bike of rossi all dressed in tech 3 colours and then enter a test rider on the tech 3 bike for development purposes. Its a win win all round. A factory test rider on the factory bike seems kinda like a waste of a perfectly good bike.

But his current team, by those rules can't withdraw him. the replacement it appears, must come from outside the ranks of current Motogp riders. Bummer.

I can't see any hassles for Spies to get on Rossi's bike, all 4 of the Fiat and Tech 3 riders are employed by Yamaha and not the actual race teams, so swapping between the teams shouldn't be a biggie.

After this rounds performance by Spies, it'd be fantastic to see him on the latest factory model.

It gets complicated with the engine swap rules and sponsors etc though eh? Monster and Tech 3 etc would be pretty pissy to see their main drawcard not flying the colours. Could just swap the fairings but you are still stuck with slapping someone elses arse on the other bike.

Edwards might get his nose outta joint too, so to avoid a Texas sized tanty I'm hoping for an interesting outsider. Bring in Bayliss, or Mladin to really stir things up. Doubt it will happen but would love to see it.

They will NOT go with an old rider, not even M maladin. Tech 3 WILL end up with another European rider with money on the bike

Crutchlow should get the call i think! Seems to be the man with the fastest times in WSB (qualifying) Seems he is willing to go the extra step when need be. Maybe put Spies on the factory and Cal in the Tech 3 garage

Give Toseland another go , he may go faster than he does on the SB and if the team plans it well enough he can hold the entire field up while Jorge gets away at the front , seems to be his latest specialty style.
