VMCC Rd2 bad vibrations on stock suspension KR1-S

Well after the first round I was ready to make amends after the crank few to bits. New crank installed and only started it up on the stand at home on Thursday, I thought it'll be alright. Saturday dawned a pretty crappy sort of day, was raining when I left home. Weather at Manfeild was considerably better.

F3 practice went horribly wrong, it would appear that the balance shaft was way out of sync with the crank and vibrated so badly was I unable to keep my feet on the pegs. I tried to at least qualify but after a couple of laps one of the mufflers had fallen off, I just thought my ear plugs had fallen out. Pulled into the pits to see SteveyB covering his ears, I looked down to see not only both mufflers missing but they had broken off at the end of the expansion chamber. There must have been some massive vibrations for that to happen. Back to the pits to see if I can remedy the vibration. To cut a long story short I took the vibrator home for repairs, bloody thing.

Day 2, F3 race 2. Wet wet wet! Having missed the first race and with only 3 practice laps under my belt I was a little cautious on the first couple of laps. Bike is running mint, more power required though. Wheel spray was terrible when following so pull finger. Duncan past me on about lap 2 so maybe I’ll try and stay with him. Caught up to Gavin (I think) and Chris. Duncan got past with no problems, so I needed to get past. Out braked Gavin at Higgins then round the outside of Chris going on to the extended circuit. Duncan by this time had gone, finished 4th in F3. Fastest lap about 2.22.

Posties race 2. Still wet! As I hadn’t qualified on Saturday I had to start off the back and what an eye opener that was. I’m pretty sure those guys down the back think it’s a Sunday drive, went past about 4 rows of bikes in the first 50 metres. By turn 1 I had caught the leading bunch and followed Stephen Mossman around to the hairpin then he just fucked off. God dam that thing is fast! Traction looked to be an issue though. Tagged on the back of Murray and Mike and reeled in Stevie. Managed to pass all three and gave Stevie a wide berth. They must have held each other up as I was expecting one of them to come flying past. Franz and Ernie had cleared off so home 3rd pre 89 jnr. Best time 2.20

F3 race 3. Still wet! Another half decent start from row 6, tried an inside line to turn 1 but had that plan foiled by a slow starting RGV and a very slippery white line. Basically followed Duncan round again (pasted Chris Ozzy again!) Following was horrific around the extension, couldn’t see jack! Duncan finally made a mistake going into Higgins and I capitalized 2 corners later by stuffing it up the inside. Maintained a gap to the finish and 3rd in F3. Best time 2.18,

Posties race 3. Track now drying, can’t be arsed changing tyres. Wets are just about toast now anyway, might as well destroy them completely, thought they should offer some sort of grip! Started in 29 position on the grid again, and by turn 1 I think I pasted Stevie. The first laps were so hectic I can’t recall what happened, pasted Ernie exiting Higgins which seemed far too easy. Franz wasn’t to far away so why not have a crack at him too. Before I knew it I had come from last on the grid to 1st jnr. This was short lived though, had big moment exiting far hairpin, rear tyre now poked. All I could do now was circulate. Franz, Murray, Mike and then Stevie went by; bike has to be near vertical before I can give it the berries now. No sign of Ernie so will settle for 3rd jnr home.
Although I missed a couple of races I still had a bloody awesome weekend. Watched some sidecar racing too
Huge thanks to the Vic Club for another awesome meeting.
And those poor marshals out there in some pretty shithouse weather.
And finally to my wife for breaking into my man cave to bring me my spare exhaust system over.

That was a good read , i cant wait till you get the bike on better tyres and have the vibes sorted . I can imagine a few awesome races with you , Steevie and Frenchy entertaining us all . Bring on the fine round you all deserve.
Good effort for the weekend even with all the problems you encountered.

PS; I hope you re-secured the man cave .....

Sorta got sandwitched behind some lardy black FZR. $hit happens. The first laps were mental. I'm dunno how the hell you make out of corners sometimes as that KR changes lines so much mid-corner. Very scary to pass.

You spooked him and he had a big slide and I had to evade quickly.

Thought you had. Good stuff. Thanks for holding up Frenchy for me.

Pooftah...to be fair though, gentle throttle control and the KR250 don't seem to mix.

old kawakas have a habit of shaking things loose - its even worse when your little donk fire twice as much as mine!!

unlikey times but still better to be racing than reading about it on the web...:-(

Perhaps you shouldn't try and pass next time. Normally I try and take a 125 style line as power is between 9 and 11000 rpm.
I think Ernie went out on the wrong tyres.
I pleased my KR is going to be competive againist your guys 600s.
Man cave is secured and have new hiding place for the key.

The KR is normally smooth as and the crank builder has admitted he didn't see the balance shaft marks on the centre crank drive gear.
It's good for me that you're not racing or I'd be a place further back.

Should be good, some close racing at the pointy end of the juniors. Ernie will be the one to beat, that bike of his is a rocket ship.

It's the weight thing...it gets out the corners very quickly whereas Frenchy and I are slipping and sliding. What are they, 150Kg wet and thats before you ditch all the road gear? Add rider and I think we're about 70Kg heavier. A bit more top end and that thing would be a scary weapon (Like a certain RD350 that's awesome to watch when it makes an appearance). Dunno how you hold onto the thing!

I'm glad there's no rounds at Hampton downs or Taupo.

Gizza shot ...I'm sure I could tell them I've ozzied it and sneak it into the buckets

    Great read man.

Re the starting from the back; the bulk of the guys back there are not watching the lights, they are watching the bikes in front of them. Multiply a quarter second reaction time by the seven or eight rows and there's a huge delay for them getting off the line. When I did it in F3 I nearly rode into a couple of other riders.
