north korea is the worst team at the WC apparently ranked 105.
I reckon we got a good chance of draw with the eyeties, and win against uraguay.
go NZ, although our racist team names are a bit off! All Blacks, All Whites...and the NZ cricket team, the KFC's.

Always was soccer for me,when playing(over 36yrs)to me football is not the kiwi name, neither is it for rugby,to me it's soccer or rugby or league.Probably the poms saying football annoyed me lol, when playing.

We went with no expectations of going to next round, maybe a draw if lucky, but on any given day any team can be beaten, and Italy won 4-3 last year so an upset on the cards?Don't think so but who knows. The difference this time is we have some top class players in the squad, and they can tough it out,so look out Italy.
We must be doing alright the bloody aussies have stolen us with reference to Australaisia getting a draw.

You know where the name soccer comes from? Rugby and Soccer used to be known as Rugby Football and Association Football. Rugby Football was shortened to RUGger but Association Football had to be shortened to SOCcer since they didn't want to use ASSer. True story.

Well, whatever anyone wants to call it, I hope that the New Zealand team (allwhites) at the world cup thingie in South Africa tonight do well.

In fact it would be wonderful to see them achieve the apparent impossible and come through with a "win"!

I wont be sitting up to watch but I will be hoping they can do it!

Yeah good luck to the All Whites although I can't see them making much of an impression against the likes of Italy. At least they are at the Cup.

Frankly I'm puzzled by the soccer thing - in its current form. As a game its attractive for its simplicity. All you need is an open space, a ball, a few players, and goal posts. Hmm...sounds like rugby. But soccer doesn't require physical prowess or involve collisions of players and therein lies the difference. It can be played by any able-bodied person - geeks, girls, nerds, people wearing spectacles, anyone and anywhere.

So its not difficult to see why its the worlds most popular game.

But.....but.....what frustrates me is that a match can be played for 90 minutes and end NIL-NIL. All that effort, all the enthusiasm, which is wasted on a non-result. Consider the All Whites draw. Its been lauded as an upset but really its almost meaningless. A boring match.

What I think needs to happen is for the goal to be heightened by 300mm and widened by 1 metre. At least. Unfortunately this makes the goalie the scapegoat for all losses but can't think of any other simple world-wide change which would produce some decent scoring and reward for both players and spectators.

As long as we do better than Australia vs. Germany, I'll be pleased. :P

    So far, so good.

And who on Earth could be sick of this World Cup? It's a wide-open contest.

    Go the Dutch!

Football is awesome isn't it. I hope the all whites success means we'll get a lot more coverage on a regular basis.
