Sweet - would have been gutted to have spoilt your day with a puncture! I can live without those cheapo tools - I only need to replace the thingy to unscrew the spark plug. I just hope they didn't cause a problem for someone else where ever they fell out. Note to self: don't trust cheapo plastic toolkit holder to do its job.
    I can haz twisties!

Not sure, but back in the late 70's, whatever he had been drinking allowed one to ride his Kawasaki 900(?) from the carpark at the Dutch Mill pub in Aberdeen - midwinter, only about six inches of ice and compacted snow on the ground. Nutter.

I suspect that the be-skerted, hairy chested teapickers are actually quite harmless.

The ones who are a big worry keep pet singing octopi. At least the owners claim them to be musical. They usually dress them in tartan cloth. (To keep them warm???) The owners can then be seen taking their pets for for walks, sometimes in very large groups. As you may imagine this many "singing" octopi can make an awful racket. I suspect the "singing" may be a mating call however someone else can probably correct me on this.

Missed the ride yesterday but the weather was pretty nice today so dragged the bike out. Decided to check out the view from the Summit Road. Rather than phaff round down Ferry Road and thru Sumner decided to duck through the tunnel and ride from Lyttleton to Evans Pass.
BAD DECISION. Expected a cold damp road with grit. Didn't expect the patches of ice. Trickling up there in 3rd gear being ever so careful and having the bike break into wheelspin focusses the mind!
The view from the Summit Road was brilliant (if a bit hazy) and only a couple of dodgy patches.
Returned home nice and cheerful and didn't even mind thrashing around in the garden.

Sal and I got out today as well, along with a friend of ours, beautiful day for it. Unfortunately his bike suffered a significant failure so our ride was cut short.

Man, you lot that went riding today are true hard core!

I couldn't even walk down my drive, let alone ride down, it was solid ice. Had trouble keeping the wheelbarrow full of firewood upright, didn't fancy doing the same on a bike ...

Sounds like you need a flat driveway and less shade

It would be a good idea for folks to avoid that section of road and the road from the tunnel to governors bay both can stay frozen for days.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

Mine is same, the worst bit of the ride to Akaroa last week was getting down the driveway leaving home without arsing the bike up.
