If you were to perform a service on a 250 (change oil, filters, spark plug) how long would it take you?
Having just had this done and been charged 2 hours labour I'm a bit confused as I would have put the effort at about 20minutes. Am I missing something?

No mention was made of this. He was warbeling on about the carburettor which I couldn't make head nor tail of as it has fuel injection.

It depends on which service it is. 2 hours is not unreasonable if it also included a valve clearance check. Also a full a service is more than just sparkplugs and oil change, it also includes chain tensioning, wheel alignment, and many other minor details. Have alook in your owners manual for a full list of what is carried out at each service.

Depending on the type of service it was the garage will have a number of specific checks to do.
The last time I took my tank off to change the air filter, it took me 40 minutes. And I've done it a few times.
The reason you go to a garage is that you want more than just a basic oil and filter change.
If the bike runs well and then I would be quite happy.
I feel sure the garage would like to hear your concerns so that they have a chance to let you know what the 2 hour bill composed of; rather than just lose you as a future customer.
If it took them 2 hours wiht all the gear they have available, it may well have taken you 3 or 4 hours.
Chase it up and see what they say.

Don't forget to bring a towel
It depends on the bike. Replacing the plugs and air filter is often a job that may take a couple of hours in itself.

Seems a bit rich for a naked oil cooled old school single cylinder 250, for a modern faired sportsbike probably about right.
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..
