I've heard that it's all a big con job (the quake). If you look on google earth (which we all know is totally live) Christchurch is fine, so the media's just conning us.

We were talking about that at work today. Majority of us are on tank water here. A shake like Chch got and the tank goes....no access to mains water. Not such a good position to be in.

We partially buried our tank. Only the top 1/3 is above ground level, and its got 25000 litres stored in there. Of course, if the power goes out then the pump doesn't work, and we have to dip the tank with a bucket.

Out in the country tank water attains a lovely crisp flavour of dead frog over rotting leaves washed from the gutters (the leaves, not the frogs)

Here in town it would have strong notes of diesel smuts and other tasty concentrated carcinogens. The end of the world looks ever so nice compared to a daily cancer brew
