Disc wear on SV650

I have just been looking at my discs and I notice that they are already forming the tell tale wear lip around the edges of all the rotors.

Now this wouldn't normally cause any great concern except the bike was bought new in May 2009 and has only covered 6500kms of light commuting, and i'm definitely not hard on the brakes at all.

The calipers don't appear to be sticking and there is a whole lot of meat left on the pads.
So whats the deal here? Is it just that the current new Suzuki discs just made out of cheese? At the current rate i'm probably going to have to buy replacements in a year or so from now which is quite frankly bull shit.

Is excessive wear on these something that could be covered under warranty, seeing as they don't appear to be up to a reasonable quality for general use?

I did 42,000km on my K7 without the discs crapping out - although by then there was the beginnings of a "pulse" from the front...not major, but definitely there.

I am pretty sure Suzuki warranty specifically excludes brake pads and discs, which is understandable, as there is plenty of muppets that are hard on their bikes, and it would be a never ending saga for them.......

The question is though, are they the original pads...... If they are, personally I would just go into the dealer and speak with the service manager, and see what he says.... If you have ever been on a track day, and the pads are OEM (if the pads are after market, there is no hope in hell they will do anything for you) then I doubt they will be able to help, but if, as you say, you have only commuted to work and back, there may be a chance that the boys in Wanganui can help.... Even if it is only a discount..... It would have to be a good discount though, as the prices for OEM Suzuki discs can really hurt.

I worked for a Suzuki dealer 10 years ago, and while I am sure it may have changed, I saw them twice bend over to customers when warranty was suspect.

I can't imagine how you would get disc wear without knackered a few sets of pads first.

With such low Ks, you really should take it up with the dealer

Easy done, if for example he had done a few track days, heavy braking can wear discs with- out even trying.

A national points racer could do a set in 2 meetings if he needed to.

I raced for three years doing a lot of meetings on my SV and didn't notice any disc wear. This was using EBC semi-race pads.

Sounds very odd.

True. However the gentleman in question uses his bike STRICTLY for commuting (pussy) to Wellington City from Johnsonville each day.

Having ridden with him in years previous, I doubt you'd find a bike owner more carefull with his machine on the road nor a better maintained bike.

Something's fishy.

I'm with Dan - there is no way in hell you can chew out a set of discs in 2 meetings.

I've raced 2 full club seasons on my SV with sintered metal pads and the discs are fine. A set of pads have lasted me several club meetings, nearly a whole season in fact.

I'm no pussy on the brakes, so thats some pretty heavy braking.
