I see back in the 30's everyone seemed happy with what they had. I see in the late 90's there was, what I would call a reneging on the deal amendment, to the original agreement... voted for ONLY by the people of NI. 94% being the result. Funny that... and part of the amendment was to article 2, where they decided not to recognise Irelands status as being a National Territory... wouldn't annoy anyone would it?

We can go around the houses, but once upon a time there was a peace. Why did it change?

You´ve started a pretty inflammatory thread without even knowing about the good Friday agreement. What are you trying to achieve? I don´t know the whole 800 years of history surrounding the disagreements, I do know the tactics used by both Loyalists and Separatists were all pretty diabolical. The people waving the real IRA flag now are just looking for a new fight, they don´t want to give up the power they have. Southern Irelands economy is in a pretty poor state and who better to blame for that than the Bankers.

Unfortunately I was having a smug moment (oh the irony) about the bankers getting threatened and voiced it on a forum. I, for one, believe we would live much happier, innovative, competitive etc... lives without the financial system and the world it wraps around it. I was looking at it from that angle. I can only assume that the mess of yesteryear and the way forwards has taken too long for some. But you may be right, it may well be that they are just looking for a new fight.

Erm...Me. I spend what I have. Everything I own belongs to me, not the bank. I work 60-70 hours a week and am supporting my wife through an apprenticeship that does not qualify for state funding or student allowance. We OWN a car a bike a horse and fuck all else. When she's done apprenticing, we'll be well off and debt free. We'll save up for a bit of land and build a house on it. We can tell the bankers to go get fucked.

A very very old school point ... Sure some of my ancestors were cannibals ... but the Moriori were never here .. only on the Te Wharekauri (Chathams) ...

The history that was taught in schools when I was there is not quite accurate. The history I learnt was that there was a group of people in New Zealand - the Moriori - and when Māori arrived on waka they killed the Moriori and ate the, so Moriori only survived on the Chathams ...

In terms of more current research ... archeological, historical and sociological ...

Groups of people settled these islands from East Polynesia ... the group that settled on what we now think of as the mainland developed a culture we now call Māori .. the groups that settled on the Chathams lost contact with the mainland and their cultrure developed slightly differently and are called Moriori ...

The "original inhabitants" were the ancestors of modern Māori - not some separate group that was wiped out .. some people will talk about "proto-Māori" as the people here before the waka arrived ... just the terminology is different - same concept .. because the people who came on the waka were Pacific Islanders and at some point they developed a culture that was different to the one they brought with them ...

That is not to say that Māori history in New Zealand was not bloody and nasty ... just as human history all around the world has been ...

I'm sorry if that conflicts with what you were taught in schools by Pākehā teachers with a vested interest in maintaining the dominant culture and its narratives ...
