    Wellington furniture removals?

Hey all, anyone around Wellington had any good or bad experiences with removal companys? We're moving house in a few weeks and looking for a good company to move our belongings (mainly the large furniture, shit we can't fit in our van), anyone recommend anyone? Or recommend anyone to stay well clear of? Cheers

We recently moved (not from Wellington). Posted our move on Back Load Movers.

    http://www.backloadmoving.co.nz/

We got five quotes, with as much as $1,000 variance (seeing as how they ranged from $2,000 to $3,000 that seems a lot) ....

Picked the cheapest one and didn't regret it.

I dunno about the movers, but this is a very good web-based service.

Hey thanks for that! What an awesome idea. Unfortunately we are moving less than 100kms so can't use that site, but will keep it in my favourites for future reference!

    Depends what you want.

If I ever do an expo etc, I use 'Move This' - 0800 668 384

Basically a couple of big strong young guys (students) and a truck. They work like slaves and are well priced. I used to use Patrick but he mave have graduated by now ;-) Couple of people at work used em to move house, worked out good by all accounts. Tell em Paul from NEC recomended em and they will only double the price...

Hmm, few weeks? so that's about labour weekend. I smell a house warming party!!

Never really used a moving service, but I can tell you who me mates use & he's crap. He's also stopped answering the phone about the time they need to move. Why the hell did I ever buy a van all those years ago? I try to break something with at least every 2nd pass. Every pass if there's steps. Fortunately most of them are settled now.

last couple of big moves we hired a small truck from seaview & conned a mate with an HT to drive it.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

I've used McNamara shift a flat. Although they are called shift a flat, they have some large trucks for moving large stuff. I'd put them midway on "the cheapest price we don't give a shit" to "wrap it in cotton wool and charge you the earth" continuum.

Just keep an eye on the guys with the precious stuff and you'll be fine. They moved our new rimu bedroom suite without a scratch / mark.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Waiting to hear back from Deano's recommendation and will call the others tomorrow for quotes, the list has been made so should be able to get fairly accurate quotes.
Yes there should be a housewarming party Dave, but we're moving in Labour weekend so will be a few weeks after that.

I assume you're talking about Aotea not Porirua
That's good to hear the crime rates are low...... I have to admit I did wonder as I was looking down over Cannons Creek wondering if Aotea is where the locals like to do their shopping......
