Im not 100% but I think he was on extra hard on the front, and trying to keep up with the lead 2. maybe should have waited a lap or two more before chucking the pace he was into it. The fact he had it up right and keeping up was impressive though. The classic front end slide is kind of his thing though.

One of the better MotoGP races of the year. (And I have enjoyed them all despite some tossers thinking earlier races were boring! ) Never dismiss the Doctor (as some on here did).
Well done to Lorenzo. A deserved champion. I feel Rossi wanted to battle with Lorenzo again like in Motegi - that is why he slowed down (and actually Dovi managed to overtake him at that time). However Lorenzo didn't take the bait this time and still hung back to make sure he was world champ. I think this was Rossi's intention in both Motegi and Sepang. Make Lorenzo battle and potentially crash to push the championship to the end. I think Rossi REALLY dislikes Lorenzo more than anyone else in the field. Shame Stoner and Pedrosa weren't in the mix as they both could have pushed Rossi for the win.
"...New Zealanders, for all their faults, have virtues that are precious: an unwillingness to be intimidated by the new, the formidable, or class systems; trust in situations where there would otherwise be none; compassion for the underdog; a sense of responsibility for people in difficulty; not undertaking to do something without seeing it through - "

I've stated that I doubt Rossi has another championship in him, and I stand by that!

Mind you...I said that last year and the bastard proved me wrong!!

If he can get another title next year on the Ducati...he surely will be considered the greatest of all time!

I think Rossi himself has many more titles within him, I think it will come down to the packages he's given to complete them on, he's fortunate that he doesn't carry many old injuries like alot of older riders do, he's has a blessed career which has seen him take a few tumbles but not sustain huge injuries (this curent season being the exception.)

I have no doubt the guy has a fairly annoying shoulder problem I magine they'll be pumping cortizone into him to keep him going till end of season, i only hope this does not have a negative effect on him over the long term.

    Time will tell though!

If someone like Capirossi can stick around as long as he has and still have a ride after this long I think as long as it's fun for Rossi out there he'll be getting amongst and making it difficult for others to run away with titles.

Hayden is reported as saying that if Rossi isn't winning on the Duc the Italian fans will burn the factory down.

Whatever, I hope next season holds more excitement than this one...

This guy is a tough act to beat! They don't mention his 500/250 double titles in the same year trick either. It's no wonder the guy burnt out so young!!!

He didn't burn out as such, he had a soft tissue injury (abraded nerve or tendon?). The surgeons had several shots at it but the damage was permanent.

Reading about what happened to Spencer makes me think that Rossi should clear off and get his shoulder fixed before he creates a similar problem for himself.

Yeah I've read several stories on the theories as to why he faded so quickly all of a sudden, crying shame no matter what the real reason was.

And yes...I think Rossi has nothing left to prove or do this season. Best he gets repaired asap for the tough season ahead.

Yes I remember him getting rubbished and doubted for the way he went out, but he was another one of those special creatures for sure. G.

I've been pondering this situation a wee while... that is the 'hey things aren't going my way i think i'll quit the season early and get some surgery' situation.

Whilst obviously his health is and should be the first and foremost thing he should be considering, what right would he have to just quit a season before it ends? he's signed a contract and is being paid to ride. If I was a team boss i'd be pleanty pissed if I had a rider who was capable of riding but because he had an owie didn't want to finish the season.

There may well be a clause in his contract though with regards to this exact situation that allows him to opt out.

Still. you would think the guy would be contractually obliged to finish the season.

    Like Pedrosa?

Then there was the thing where Yamaha are contracted to put two bikes out after a couple of rounds as happened earlier in the season. That may have something to do with the timing?

I guess they all know the rules even if they argue about the fine detail as with Honda and Dovizioso
