No. ABS doesn't reduce braking distance. In some cases it can increase distances. Most of those cases end up being at the race track with freaks onboard that can stop a bike in a shorter distance than a less talented individual with ABS. Those freaks are the ones paid craploads of money to race 150kg/220HP machines for a living.

Can't remember if the rules specifically prohibit them or not though.

Who said they were? Don't get me wrong...I wouldn't have a clue what they were running. I'd simply be interested to know either way. May well be a marketing thing by Honda...doesn't mean they were actually using a bike equipped with it does it?

Me and Homo, I mean Hayden ran the ABS cbr600 to 2nd place at the enduro last year and just got pipped by sloan by 30 odd seconds.
Didn't really notice it being too different apart form the fact that under really heavy breaking it felt like the back of the bike was being pulled down, not all the weight pitching forward and wanting to lift the back.
In my opinion, on the track it would be a greater benefit in the wet than dry, however on the road I fully believe that every bike should have it. It can brake far better than the average rider.

Piss off. So you'd be OK if I was some fluro wearing homo that decided we all should wear it? What if I decided 50hp was enough for the 'street'? That top speed should be capped at 99.9 kph?

Fuck off with your safety for 'us' all shit. We're all 'the average' rider as far as stats go, and I want none of your rules and regs.

Haha, holy shit that is just the response that makes the internet awesome!
Did you see the bit in my post where I said In my opinion and underlined it?
An opinion is a subjective statement or thought about an issue or topic, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts. An opinion may be supported by an argument, although people may draw opposing opinions from the same set of facts. Opinions rarely change without new arguments being presented. However, it can be reasoned that one opinion is better supported by the facts than another by analysing the supporting arguments.[1]

An opinion may be the result of a person's perspective, understanding, particular feelings, beliefs, and desires. In casual use, the term opinion may refer to unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact-based beliefs.
Next thing your know they will have ABS in cars too, those bastards!
